Get to know Seville past in the historic centre of the city
If you're out exploring the old historical town of Seville, make sure you visit Santa Cruz and La Juderia, two famous neighbourhoods of Seville. Once the Jewish Quarters of the city, the area is comprised of tiny streets that intertwine, connecting small plazas and beautiful medieval buildings, many of which have retained their original character and architectural detail over the years. Discover hidden gardens, orange tree lined streets and the real essence of Seville as you wonder this area.A must-see feature of the area is the Cathedral in Santa Cruz. There is also some beautiful religeous paintings and choir books on display.
The Royal Palace or Reíal Alcazar, can also be found in this area. Its a beautiful and impressive building with several courtyards, chapels, and patios which are intricately decorated.
Another must see is the Archive de Indias, a library with many historical documents of Spains American empire. Some as old as 1942, there are 9 kilometres of shelving holding more than eighty million pages of material, including the original journal of Christopher Columbus.

Seville's main Cathedral is truly impressive and one of the biggest in Spain. Some argue it is te biggest in the Gothic architectural style in the world. It was built on the site of a 12th Century Mosque and covers an area of more than 11,000 square meters. The central nave rises to almost 43 meters into the sky. Festivals and Events in seville
Theres nothing like a Seville Fiesta! Here are the biggest events in Seville that you really should not miss.
La Feria- Sevilles' biggest annual party
The April Fair, La Feriá is one of the biggest festivals held in Spain's Andalucian province, in the city of Seville. The festival features many aspects of traditional Spanish culture, making it an event that attracts not only locals, but also tourists, interested in an insight into the traditions, food and celebrations of the Spanish people- singing, dancing, flamenco, music, horses, bull fighting and agricultural shows.
Local men and women get dressed up in traditional Andalusian costumes, making the event a colourful spectacle.
La Feria is held in the Real de la Feria, an outdoor fairground located just outside the city, opposite Maria Luisa park. In the fairground, thousands of large, brightly coloured marquee style 'casetas' (tents) are set up and decorated with brightly coloured lanterns and flowers.
The festival officially begins with 'El Alumbrado'- the lighting of the lanterns, and ends the following Sunday night with a fireworks display.
The 'Paseo de Caballos' features horses pulling brightly decorated carriages. Local Spanish girls are part of the parade, dressed in colourful gypsy style dresses.
After the parade, in the afternoon, the bullfighting begins in the Plaza del Torros. The best Matadores from all over Spain travel to Seville to compete in a colourful display of strength and showmanship.
But it is after dark when the party really gets into full swing. Music, dancing and drinking wont stop until the early hours of the morning. The traditional alcoholic 'manzanilla' wine (sherry) will be flowing.
Visitors come to enjoy La Feria for more than just the festivities and the food and wine. It's a chance to witness first hand a traditional Spanish festival that brings out the best of the locals who come together and celebrate their culture. Don't miss it!
