Financial Planning Advice

How To Stay In The Black

If you want to keep your business' financial health blooming, just ask accountants in Dudley. The first thing you need to think about is goal setting

The best way to start this is to ask yourself where you see your business in two years' time? Then work backwards to short-term goals, such as, what's the most important thing you need to achieve in the next month in your business?

Don't make your targets too over-the-top but don't make them too easy either. What is a realistic sales target in the coming month?

Don't make your goals too outlandish but on the other hand don't make it too easy either. What is a realistic sales target in the coming month?

For example, if you are turning over £50,000 and you want to be turning over £60,000, set yourself a target of increasing sales by £1,000 a month.

Measure your goals. Assess how easy or difficult it was to reach each of the targets that you set. I am a firm believer that if you are determined enough you can achieve it. You need to set realistic targets, but it can be done.

Make a dedicated folder that you call 'Goalsetting'. Put a date in your diary when you need to review your goals. If you are never doing this kind of long-term planning, your business cannot move forward.

Systems and More

type=text

The next thing to think about is systems. Workable business systems are essential for any business large or small. For example, if somebody quotes you £100 for a service and invoices you £130 without having explained the difference to you, do you have a record of this in order to dispute the £30 difference? Do you have an order system and follow up process?

How well acquainted are you with your clients' financial health? If your customers cannot pay you, you cannot pay your suppliers - or indeed your employees. Don't let it happen. Credit check them or buy a copy of their accounts for a £1 from Companies House.

Do you always use the cheapest supplier? Can your accountant explain exactly why you should follow the advice? Knowledge transfer of this type is a very good sign that any service provider is worth the money you are paying them.
