All Businesses and Most Homes Need to Keep Track of Their Numbers! Accounting and Bookkeeping is How!

Though numbers have not always kept my interest (I'm a biology and words nut, not a math nut), it's when a dollar sign is put in front of those numbers that they sort of spark my interest -- if only a little.

When I was in college, I was a biology major/chemistry minor... and fooled around with being on the campus newspaper staff. Later, I became a science writer and science teacher. But for a while, I had a girlfriend who was a business management and accounting major. I helped her with her English and helped her with writing her term papers for her business and accounting classes. At the time, business and accounting seemed exceedingly dry and boring.

It was only later, when I worked as an editor for a government auditing agency (no, not the IRS ... but some of the guys I worked with were ex-IRS auditors!), that I started to see some fascinating things about accounting. This Squidoo lens will describe some of those things and will provide resources that you can use to learn more about this interesting field.

How Good is YOUR Accountant or Bookkeeper?

If you've got a good accountant or bookkeeper, they should be MILLIONAIRES!

Numbers - What Accountants and Bookkeepers Work With!Yup. it would make sense that your accounting, business, or bookkeeping teachers or professors at school should not only have experience from owning their own businesses (and making them highly profitable), but they should also understand various "rules" of accounting and business in which money MAKES money. You should find advisors who have done well with what they advise--otherwise, how can you be assured that what they're saying isn't pure cow-pucky?

If you've got a good accountant or bookkeeper, they should be MILLIONAIRES! Or, at least, they should be well on their way to achieving that sort of goal.

Accountants and Bookkeepers in Motion!

Some accountants find figures that indicate funny business (and they make a movie or two about it). Other accountants make sense out of a jumble of numbers (and they make a movie or two about it). Either way, you can see what accountants do (sometimes only briefly -- because really, watching nothing but two hours worth of someone banking on a calculator or adding machine is not really as exciting as a chase scene). These movies will give you some insight on what accountants can do... whether funny or not!
