People who have accounting degrees have a lot of opportunities when they are seeking jobs. That's because accountants are needed in all types of businesses, from retail sales to the travel industry. Get To Work With Your Associates Degree

There are several different kinds of accounting degrees. Some students may choose to get an associate degree to start with, as a way to get right into the field. People who hold associate degrees can hold a variety of accounting jobs, from a bookkeeper, to an accounting clerk, to a junior accountant.

One of the advantages of getting an associate degree in accounting is that it gives a great deal of flexibility. An associate degree in business accounting can allow a graduate to get a job in a real-world accounting situation, gaining valuable work experience. This work experience can help the junior accountant decide if they want to move up and work towards a bachelor's degree in accounting.

Tuition Assistance For Accounting Is Common

If they decide that accounting is the right choice, being employed already may have some distinct advantages. It's not uncommon for employers to offer tuition assistance to employees if they are choosing a bachelor's degree in a related field, in exchange for a commitment to work for a certain period of time after graduation. In this way, students can continue working, either going to school after hours, or even online.

People who have a bachelor's business degree in accounting have more job choices than those who don't. Most large accounting or financial firms require a minimum of a bachelor's degree. People who have bachelor's degrees in accounting also have the opportunity to work in jobs that offer much better pay. In fact, $61,480 is the median annual salary for a person with a bachelor's degree in accounting.

Accounting Jobs Are Growing Faster Than Average

After receiving a bachelor's business degree and working for a few years, many accountants choose to seek either a CPA certification or a master's degree, or both. In fact, there are a number of accounting degrees that are five-year programs that result in a masters business degree as well as a CPA designation. This can lead to higher earning potential; the top ten percent of accountants' median annual salary is $102,480.

If a person is thinking about accounting as a career, they should definitely have an affinity for math and numbers, as well as problem solving abilities. They will also need to have good communication skills; they will have to explain financial and accounting issues to others who do not have accounting backgrounds. Jobs in accounting will be plentiful over the next eight years; the Bureau of Labor Statistics says that accounting jobs will be growing at a much faster than average rate.
