AC/DC - The Best & Unforgettable Classic Heavy Metal Rock-n-Roll Band
AC/DC is not the abbreviation for Alternative Current/Direct Current of the commonly known terminology of electrical engineering, but it is the musical band formed by Angus Young and Malcolm Young in Sydney, Australia, back in 1973.
AC/DC is a classic band that started the heavy metal rush along with other bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. The band's style is known by different names, hard rock, rock 'n' roll, blues and heavy metal. However, the band members of AC/DC have always considered their music as good old fashion rock 'n' roll.
The driving force, in the band's name, implies that they are a bit on the hard, shocking or thrilling side of the music business. AC/DC released their first album, entitled "High Voltage" - adopting the idiom from electrical engineering - in 1975.
AC/DC's remarkable success can be seen in their incredible worldwide record and album sales. Try to a tune of 150 million albums and getting ranked at number four on VH1's the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock, which indeed vouches for its popularity.
AC/DC Band Members:
The band was originally formed of the following members:
1. Late Bon Scott
2. Dave Evans
3. Mark Evans
4. Chris Slade
5. Simon Wright
The present members of AC/DC are as follows:
1. Angus, lead guitar
2. Malcolm Young, rhythm guitar
3. Brian Johnson, vocals
4. Cliff Williams, bass
5. Phil Rudd, drums
Changes in AC/DC Over Time
Even though the band faced a setback in 1978, with the departure of Mark Evans, Cliff Williams took his place and made the team good. The death of Bon Scott, lead singer and co-songwriter, almost caused a major blow to the band. The band immediately rejuvenated with Brian Johnson joining the group. The departure of Phil Rudd, drummer in the year 1983, caused an irreparable loss to the band and it fell on bad times. With the return of Phil Rudd in 1994, the band revived and is now looking forward to its former glory.
Some popular albums of the band:
1 High Voltage (1975)
2. Highway to Hell (1979)
3. For Those about Rock, We Salute You (1980)
4. The Razor's Edge (1990)
5. Ball Breaker (1995)
6. Stiff Upper Lip (2000)
Where Are They Now?
In 2002 the band was featured in the "50 Bands to See Before You Die" list from Q Magazine. In 2003 Malcolm Young was awarded the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Service to Australian Music.
July of 2003 saw AC/DC performing with the Rolling Stones and Rush in a concert in Toronto, Canada. The concert was to help the city overcome the effects of SARS epidemic and currently holds the record for the largest paid music event in North American history.
AC/DC is still active and is poised to bring out yet another record-breaking album in 2007. The band, since it's start in 1973, has been alive and kicking, in spite of several ups and downs. Given its track record over the years, it is bound to live up to it's fans' expectations in the years to come.

- My thirteen-year-old autistic grandson has been an AC/DC fan since he was old enough to have his own CD player. Since many children who are autistic have an area of expertise, his area is music. He has perfect pitch and loves to pretend he is member of AC/DC. He knows every word to every song and probably more about each band member than the members themselves. He lives in Kansas City Missouri where AC/DC is scheduled for a concert at the Sprint Center in April of 2009. He and his parents cannot even afford the nosebleed seats at $100 apiece. Being able to attend this concert would definitely be the ultimate highlight of his life. Is there any contest of some kind or some way he could win or get tickets? Please email me if there is any chance that he and his parents or parent could attend.

- Hey Christina,
I voted for your AC/DC squidoo lense and made a lense roll to my lense, New ACDC Album.
Yep, AC/DC is working on a new album. It's recorded and last I knew was in the mixing stage. It's expected to be released sometime in 2008.
