Acer G24, The Best Gaming Monitor On The Market

Hi my name is Jake, I am a Computer Systems Engineer, and I have been in the market for a serious gaming monitor for the last few months and have gone through the painstaking process of searching the web for any and all information on the topic. So I decided to do the world a favor and just give you all the answer right now, if you are lucky enough to stumble upon this site in search of the ultimate gaming monitor.

There are a few key points to look at when in the market for a monitor that will perform well in intense gaming situations. Most importantly is input lag, or "response time." This is the amount of time it takes for a pixel (picture element) on your display to switch from gray to gray. This is primarily important in entertainment applications such as gaming and watching movies. This is so important because during gaming and movie watching images on the display change so rapidly that, if your monitor cannot keep up with them you will see smearing of past images.

I was originally looking at the Dell 24" Ultrasharp , which is a beautiful monitor (Check it out here) for web browsing and basic desktop applications, as well as all the members of the Ultrasharp family. However, for the serious gamer or HD movie watcher the input lag may be found to be unbearable.

This being said, I turned my sights on other brands and spoke with several professional gamers about what they prefer. I found that 22" Samsung was a very good choice for gaming given its 2ms response time, however my heart was really set on a 24" display. I went into Best Buy the next day and checked out this very monitor.

I was in the market for a monitor to use as an external for my Dell m1710 gaming laptop so I would not have to game on my 17" laptop screen anymore. When I saw the 22" Samsung in Best Buy I was disappointed that the resolution would be under performing my graphics card, which was running at 1920x1200, and also the desktop demo that was being run on the monitor looked very blurry. I knew it would be great for gaming, but I couldn't rationalize the price tag and accept poor desktop performance. So I went back to the drawing board.

Ideally I wanted a 24" monitor with a 2ms response time that would run at 1920x1200. And then upon perusing Amazon.com I finally found it, the Holy Grail of gaming monitors, The ACER G24. This provided all of the above specs that were crucial for my gaming enjoyment, as well as boasted the highest contrast ratio available on the market today 50000:1(dynamic). Of course for me the orange was a HUGE plus, I always like my rig to stand out and I can set the LEDs on my m1710 to match the orange and it looks amazing, I'll take some pictures and video sometime soon and add them but for now I have added links to Amazon for the G24 and also a similar monitor for those who aren't diggin' the orange.

Anyways this is by far the best monitor I have ever used for gaming and HD movies, not to mention the web surfing and desktop work looks great. Out of the box the settings aren't exactly perfect, however I managed to get them adjusted within a couple hours of setting it up. The main problem out of the box is the brightness is just insane, I could feel myself going blind while playing my favorite game, Counter Strike: Source, especially when getting flash banged, I altered the contrast a bit and lowered the brightness to 30 percent and now my eyes couldn't be happier.

I paired this with the Razer Lycosa gaming keyboard, and the Razer Copperhead gaming mouse all linked to my Dell m1710 laptop. I hope this review has been helpful to you all, and if you have any questions at all just leave a comment.

Also, something I would like to mention for those of you eager buyers out there (like me!) is that Amazon now has something called "Bill Me Later," which allows you to buy things online without a credit card. This is by far the safest solution to online purchasing. How it works is you buy the item and they send you a bill about a week after you purchase it, which you can also pay online. I ordered my monitor around the 9th of November, and I have my first payment due on December 9th with a minimum payment of $12.00. You can also have paper bills sent to your home if you do not wish to pay online. Cheers!

Don't Like The Orange?

Personally I love the orange, and appreciate a new color in the monitor world, but if you aren't a fan of orange Acer has created another similar option for you.
