GMAT at a Glance

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is used by schools to rank applicants of Master's program for Business Administration (MBA programs).

So, you wanna go to Harvard? ...then you MUST ace the GMAT exam!

The Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®) is a standardized exam used by business schools to determine the qualifications of applicants looking to obtain an advanced degree (Masters) in business and management. Your GMAT score will be viewed as a key predictor of your academic success. Generally, all the top, prestigious schools require high scores to obtain entrance (700 and above). Yes, there are many other factors taken into consideration when you apply, but unless you found the cure for cancer or have some other super-special thing going for you, STUDY and AIM to SCORE HIGH!!

Many people downplay the importance of the exam or the amount of preparation need to score in the 700s. I believe there are many reasons for this:

1. Trick your competition. Fellow test-takers know that the scores are based on percentiles. The better someone else does, the worst off for themselves.
2. If you let that stop you, you don't belong. On the road to success, as in life and B-school, many obstacles are placed in front of you. The GMAT is used to weed out people that can't take the stress, time management and studying involved in acing the exam.
3. Don't overwhelm them. Some people don't want to place additional pressure on the test-taker.

This site will give some direction to those of you looking for 90+% scores. Not all study materials and strategies are created equal so you have to taylor your study-plan to material that targets the upper-eclon of test-takers.

Remember: Average is as close to the bottom as it is to the top!

So if you ambitious and aggressive in the pursuit of that elusive perfect score, read on and Good Luck!!

About the GMAT

You will be tested on basic math, verbal, and analytical writing skills.

You will NOT be tested on:

* your knowledge of business
* your undergraduate work (only high school math is tested, albeit in tricky ways)
* subjective qualities (such as motivation or interpersonal skills - that will happen later with the application and interviews)

NOTE: No two exams are exactly alike so don't try to cheat. You must STUDY.

Format and Timing

The GMAT exam consists of three main parts,
1st: Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA)
2nd: Quantitative section (Math)
3rd: Verbal section

All exams are given in that order.

Analytical Writing Assessment

You have to write 2 essays:
* Analysis of an Issue
* Analysis of an Argument.

You are allowed 30 minutes to complete each one.
Total time for the section: 1 hour (60 minutes)

A 10 minute break may be taken when you finish both essays or you can proceed to the next section.

Quantitative Section

This section contains 37 multiple-choice questions.
There are two question types
* Data Sufficiency
* Problem Solving.

Total time for the section: 1 hour 15 minutes (75 minutes)

Again, you're offered a 10 minute break at the end. You can choose to take it or move on to the next section.

Verbal Section

This section contains 41 multiple choice questions
There are three question types
* Reading Comprehension
*Critical Reasoning
*Sentence Correction.

Total time for the section: 1 hour 15 minutes (75 minutes)
