Acid Free Scrapbooks

Acid Free Scrapbook Album Facts

The album in this photo has been damaged by acid content in its pages.

Acid in scrapbooks will also damage your photos and memorabilia.
Buying acid free scrapbooks and accessories will help preserve your photos and memorabilia for generations allowing your photos to be enjoyed by grand-children and great-grandchildren. Wouldn't it be great if they could learn about their heritage through your photos and words?

Imagine if this had been available 100 or 200 years ago. What would you know about your ancestors? What do you wish you knew?

If you are a Scrapbooker, you've no doubt heard the term "Acid Free" a number of times. For some this is an important part of scrapbooking and for others it just isn't important.

When you hear the term acid free while scrapbooking, it generally means that there is less acid in your pages that will destroy your memorabilia than the average page.

But, there is really more to it than that.

What does Acid Free mean?

Unfortunately acid free is a term that has about as much meaning as lite does when it comes to food. There are no standards and no body that regulates if an item is in fact acid free. In fact the term itself, acid free, is misleading. Acid Free scrapbooks and scrapbooking supplies will have acid in them, just less than supplies that are of a lower quality.

It's up to the consumer to look at the name of the supplier and decide for herself if the brand is a name she can trust.

How does this apply to scrapbooking?

Acid destroys photos. So does Lignon.

This is the stuff that turns your photo album pages yellow, and it's what causes newspaper to disintegrate quickly.

For the scrapbooker who wants her photos and memories to last a lifetime and beyond, this is a serious issue.

For the scrapbooker who is doing it for the fun and for the craft aspect, someone who is not concerned about longevity of their work, acid free and lignan free scrapbooking paper and supplies won't be a concern.

What else to look for - Lignon

Lignon is what turns your photo albums yellow. Acid free and lignan free scrapbooking supplies will help you keep your hard work in good condition for generations.
