This is by far the simplest acid and alkalinefood book out there. It explains clearly how to balance body pH and why it is so fundamentally important for your body's processes to work properly. It goes through the consequences to your health of an imbalance and it explains how exactly you can very easily go about correcting it. It has an A - Z list of alkaline forming food and clear instructions on how to use it. It even has a fast food table! This little book has been reviewed by 42 buyers on Amazon and 36 of them gave it 4 or 5 stars! For my part, I bought this book a couple of years ago and it is by far the easiest to follow and is brilliant to pick up any time to check if a certain food is acid or alkaline. I used to take it to the market with me and its completely dog-eared now. Of course this is my second copy. I lent my first to my sister and never got it back!

The easiest and least expensive way to find out and to monitor while you balance body pH is to use pH strips. Wet the tip with saliva or urine and in 15 seconds match the color to the chart provided and get your pH result immediately.
The pH of urine fluctuates throughout the day so here's the best way to do it. Measure it in the morning and it will show generally what your body has been doing in the past 24 hours. So it will generally be acidic. Later, measure your second urine and see how your body is coping with the acid. It should have neutralised in a healthy body.
You should monitor your pH daily and watch your body's recovery as you increase the alkaline forming foods in your diet.

- What is pH?
Put simply, pH is a measure of acidity and alkalinity. It is measured on a scale of 1 to 14 with 1 being the most acidic and 14 being the most basic or alkaline. A pH of 7 is considered neutral. Vinegar (acetic acid) is an example of a common acid and bread soda (bicarbonate of soda) is an example of an alkali. Water has a neutral pH. - Why is body pH balance important?
Different areas of your body operate at different pH levels but for the most part the environment of the body is slightly basic. Our cells are aqueous (contain water) and are therefore neutral or slightly basic and vital cellular processes require absolutely that this pH be maintained for normal, healthy functioning of the body. The pH of your blood is thought to be a good indicator of the pH of your organs and tissues in which all these processes occur. In fact, the blood pH is very rigidly controlled, a lot like body temperature, and in a healthy person it is kept strictly between pH 7.35 and 7.45. - What happens when your body pH balance is upset?
The body works very hard, taking vital neutralising minerals such as calcium and magnesium from muscle and bone to balance the pH. The more acidic the body becomes, the harder the body has to work to try and maintain pH balance. It is when the body is just so overwhelmed with acid and is unable to restore pH balance that serious health problems occur from a condition called acidosis. - What causes acid overload and acidosis?
Every type of food that you eat releases either acid or alkali into your blood when it is digested and metabolized. Our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate mainly non-processed vegetables and a small amount of meat. Our Western-style diet (what most of us eat today) is very different. We now eat a hugely increased amount of processed grains, sugar, dairy products, meat and salt. All of these are acid -forming and they put enormous pressure on your body to maintain pH balance. The seriously negative effects of the Western-style diet on numerous aspects of health such as heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity, aging and so on are well documented medically. - How can you balance body pH?
The answer is simple. You can create the proper alkaline balance within your body by eating the proper balance of acid and alkaline foods. My own story is like so many other mothers. I have three small sons. My days are hectic, to say the least. My day starts at 6:30am and I rarely get to bed before midnight.
