What is acne?
Acne is a disease that affects the skin's oil glands. The small holes in your skin (pores) connect to oil glands under the skin. These glands make an oily substance called sebum. The pores connect to the glands by a canal called a follicle. Inside the follicles, oil carries dead skin cells to the surface of the skin. A thin hair also grows through the follicle and out to the skin. When the follicle of a skin gland clogs up, a acne grows. Most acne are found on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. Acne is not a serious health threat but, it can cause scars Untreated acne can leave permanent scars.
Acne affects most teenagers to some extent. However, the disease is not restricted to any age group; adults in their 20s - even into their 40s - can get acne.
Acne can appear as any of the following: Congested pores, Whiteheads,
Blackheads, Pimples, Pustules, or Cysts (deep pimples).

How Does Acne Develop?
Sometimes, the hair, sebum, and skin cells clump together into a plug. The bacteria in the plug causes swelling. Then when the plug starts to break down, a acne grows. There are many types of acne. The most common types are:
· Whiteheads. These are acne that stay under the surface of the skin.
· Blackheads. These acne rise to the skin's surface and look black. The black color is not from dirt.
· Papules. These are small pink bumps that can be tender.
· Pustules. These acne are red at the bottom and have pus on top.
· Nodules. These are large, painful, solid acne that are deep in the skin.
· Cysts. These deep, painful, pus-filled acne can cause scars.

Acne Treatments or How Is Acne Treated?

· Heal pimples
· Stop new pimples from forming

· Help reduce the embarrassment of having acne.
There are many over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription drugs. Some acne medicines are put right on the skin. Other medicines are pills that you swallow.
Control of acne is an ongoing process. All acne treatments work by preventing new acne breakouts. Existing blemishes must heal on their own,
Many non-prescription acne lotions and creams help cases of acne.
However, for tougher and severe cases of acne, you should consult your doctor.

How Should People With Acne Care for Their Skin?
· Clean skin gently. Use a mild cleanser in the morning, evening, and after heavy workouts. Scrubbing the skin does not stop acne. It can even make the problem worse.
· Try not to touch your skin. People who squeeze, pinch, or pick their pimples can get scars or dark spots on their skin.
· Shave carefully. If you shave, you can try both electric and safety razors to see which works best. With safety razors, use a sharp blade. Also, it helps to soften your beard with soap and water before putting on shaving cream. Shave lightly and only when you have to.
· Stay out of the sun. Many acne medicines can make people more likely to sunburn. Being in the sun a lot can also make skin wrinkle and raise the risk of skin cancer.
· Choose makeup carefully. All makeup should be oil free. Look for the word "noncomedogenic" on the label. This means that the makeup will not clog up your pores. But some people still get acne even if they use these products.

Acne Cure or How to Get Rid of Acne?
Avoiding excess sugar and fat will reduce outbreaks considerably. Proper fiber intake aids digestion and will increase the bodies ability to process nutrients effectively. If excess sugar or fat is present or the body fails to adequately digest, toxins will be eliminated through the skin, resulting in perpetual outbreaks and making it difficult to get rid of acne.
Hygiene is another issue that often contributes to frequent outbreaks. Blackheads and whiteheads(comedones) are the result of built-up dead skin cells, small hairs, dirt, oil, and makeup. Failing to wash daily leads to a buildup that impacts skin pores and can lead to trapped bacteria, resulting in pustules (pimples), a condition worse than blackheads.
A hot mask will open the facial pores temporarily, loosening the trapped dirt and dead skin. Once the pores have expanded, using an astringent will break apart the impaction and make it easy to rinse off. Astringent is also effective at killing bacteria both on the surface of the skin and within the pores. This will prevent future infections. Once the pores have been cleaned, a splash of cold water will cause the pores to return to normal size. Avoid excessive washing, however, as this can lead to dry skin; wash no more than twice daily.
Getting rid of nodules and cysts are more difficult. They are often extremely painful and inflamed, and are considered a severe form of acne that is difficult to get rid of. Because the underlying cause of nodules and cysts are often unrelated to hygiene, seeing a dermatologist is usually recommended. A dermatologist will be able to prescribe stronger medication than over-the-counter options.
While dieting and hygiene are both necessary steps to get rid of acne, they are often not sufficient for completely alleviating an outbreak. Because of this, over-the-counter creams may be necessary. Acne creams vary in strength, but each contains the substance benzoyl peroxide, which is a bleaching agent. Benzoyl Perozide can effectively get rid of acne when used properly. Each cream lists its strength on the box. It is best to start with mild; using the strong creams first can result in burns worse than the acne lesions.
Do not try too many brands of acne cream at once. As a general rule, it takes approximately two months for treatments to work. Do not change creams every few days, and do not apply more often than the directions indicate.
