Acne and Birth Control Pills

For people who have acne birth control pill information is a matter of piqued concern when it comes to using oral contraceptives as effective acne products. No one argues that contraceptives won't help fight acne when its shown that they do but they may not be indicated for all female acne sufferers. At least one manufacturer has gone on record that its product is indicated for young women who have acne vulgaris and also want to use oral contraceptives.

But using the pill for the treatment of acne alone is risky. There are side affects which many feel are less risky than those of unwanted pregnancy. Still oral contraceptives aren't always the best form of birth control. While it is true that they have high levels of effectiveness they may be inappropriate for some women. They are especially problematic for women who smoke and are over the age of 35. The risks primarily center around blood clot formation and cardiovascular health. So, for some, there may be better ways get rid acne products to use.

These products work by adding doses of the hormones estrogen and progestin to the body. Balancing the hormone levels appears to have the desirable side effect of relieving acne symptoms. So, for many people that suffer from acne this can be a good solution.

Hormone treatments always have serious potential side effects. Any hormone prescriptions require special handling care. Hormones regulate many bodily processes and any tampering with the body's natural processes involve inherent risks. The biggest problem is that any harm which these prescriptions may cause will take a long time to develop. Things may appear to be going along very well for months or even years before these side effects become apparent. When the side effect finally is discovered it can be very severe and advanced. Acne sufferers therefore sometimes have to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of having clear pores.

For these reasons oral contraceptives need to be taken for birth control only when medically advisable and considered to have the pleasant side effect of alleviating acne problems. As long as a physician considers this to be the best choice and the patient agrees there should be no reason not to enjoy freedom from acne outbreaks as well. In this scenario the acne product rating is high.
