Believe it or not but Botox is now being heralded as a solution for deep acne scarring. In a recent study published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, it is reported that Botox helped facial wounds heal with very little scarring.

David Sherris, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University at Buffalo who directed the study said: "The reason this works is because wide scars are the result of the local muscles pulling the wound apart during the healing phase...Botulinum toxin temporarily weakens the surrounding muscles, thereby lessening the pull on the wound during the acute healing phase of the first 2-4 months."

While many people might have fears as to the health effectiveness of using Botox as an acne solution, you may be relieved to know that a study in the December edition of the European Journal of Neurology deemed Botox to be safe and effective for long term use.

However, at around $300 per treatment is could prove an expensive acne solution. But, for anyone who suffers from acne scarring it's worth considering.
