Aconite (Aconitum napellus) AKA Wolfsbane, Monkshood

Homeopathic Aconitum nappelus is very handy remedy to have around the house and in your portable emergency kit. If you have small children or pets in the house you NEED this! Aconite can calm the panic and fear of being injured and make dealing with life's little traumas much easier.

It's great for panic attacks too!

Spotlight on Aconite

From TheOnlineHomeopath.com

Aconite
other names: Aconitum napellus, Monkshood, Wolfsbane

You don't need to be a professional to take advantage of this great remedy in emergency situations. It's especially handy to keep on hand if you have children in the house. Aconite is also an excellent choice for animals in the same situations as well.

While many people may turn to a rescue or 5 flower blend essence in emergencies (like Bach Rescue Remdy for example), in various situations I've found that Aconite can be more effective and faster acting. As a mother of 4 children, I've used Aconite A LOT.

Here's a common scenario - someone gets injured (whether serious or not) and they "freak out". The person is so upset that you cannot even calm them enough to adequately assess the seriousness of the injury. The person will often hold the injured part and refuse to allow you to look at it, wash it, or even touch them at all. They are acutely panicked and fearful with wide eyes, fast breathing, and accelerated heart rate. This is a very particular state of shock.

As another example, imagine a person who has a snake phobia and they came home to see this next to their front door!

Can you picture that state of fear? Aconite would help.

WARNING!!

Aconite is only safe for use when prepared as a homeopathic remedy. DO NOT EAT THE RAW PLANT - it is poisonous!!!

"ACONITE WORKS FOR FRIGHT"

An easy way to remember when to use Aconite.

Some common uses in the household:

Some one suffers a burn or cut and is too panicked to have the injury examined

Fear and anxiety at the onset of a migraine

Women who become panicked during labor and childbirth, fearing imminent death

Acute fright when in pain

Panic and restless from kidney stones

Panic during an asthma attack

Gallbladder pain when sufferer believes they are dying

Panic, fear, and headache associated with the first stage of heatstroke

Sudden, acute fear for any reason.

Acute anxiety or panic attacks.

IMPORTANT : In the scenarios mentioned here, Aconite DOES NOT treat any of the injuries, it mearly allows the person to calm down and deal with their situation in a more appropriate manner. A child with a skinned knee who was completely uncooperative and panicked one minute will generally calm down within seconds with one dose of Aconite and allow the caregiver to take care of their boo-boos.

For the home or first aid kit I recommend keeping on hand a bottle of Homeopathic 30c Aconite - give 3-4 pills or tablets at onset of the situation. Aconite is a common remedy available from several different manufacturers in the US. You can order online, or pick it up at your local health food grocers or homeopathic pharmacy.

More Choices

Hyland's, B&T, and Boiron are all recommended compounders

Tips:

Hyland's Pills come in a regular bottle and dissolve VERY quick.
Boiron pills come in a handy dosage tube (no spills), they are tiny and round and take a minute or so to dissolve in your mouth.
B&T is usually the most cost-effective, but the pills are a bit dusty tasting.

How Does Homeopathy Work?

.........In a nutshell

The primary law of homeopathy is "similia similibus curentur", or simply put, "like cures like". Substances that can make you ill (or hyper, as in the case of coffee) can also cure you. Coffee is a stimulant, therefore if someone is over-stimulated, administering a homeopathic preparation of coffee will counter-act that.

Think about how hyperactivity is treated in children with ADHD. Do doctors prescribe a sedative to calm them down? No, the ADHD medications, like Ritalin, are STIMULANTS. Yet, these stimulants actually counteract the hyperactivity.

To put it VERY simplistically, I like to explain it like this: A fly lands on your arm and it tickles. The fly has stimulated the nerve endings in your skin. So, what do you do? You scratch it. You apply MORE of the same stimulation which caused the itch in the first place, and the tickling sensation goes away. This is much like the action of homeopathic remedies - taking a substance which causes your symptoms only stronger, will "knock out" the symptoms you were suffering from. It overpowers them, and stimulates your body to mount a defense.

I am a graduate of the The Homeopathy School of Colorado and hold the designation of CHom (Classical Homeopath). While at the school, I had the privelege of training under homeopaths Alastair Gray, DSH, PCH, Judith Reichenberg-Ullman, ND, DHANP, MSW and Robert Ullman, ND, DHANP, and Kim Elia. I also participated as a supervisor in the published proving of Aquilegia vulgaris - the common Columbine.
I have been providing online consultations for 2 years in addition to my regular in-office practice.

I've used Flower Essence Remedies personally and with my children, my pets, and other family members for the past 8 years and with my homeopathic clients for 4 years. I have been heavily influenced Ian Watson's work with using flower essences in tandem with homeopathy

I have received training in Flower Essence Therapy, Western Herbal Medicine, Reflexology, Health Counseling, Holistic Counseling, Nutritional Counseling, Reiki and Crystal Healing, and Eastern Meditation for health issues.

My philosophy is to offer the BEST care available to each client in a complementary way. I believe that everyone should be educated about all available options regarding their health and well-being and to have access to the best of all systems, whether they be traditional or modern, allopathic or holistic. Integrative medicine benefits everyone.

From Wiki

Aconitum napellus (Monkshood, "aconite", "Wolf's Bane", Fuzi, "Monk's Blood", or "Monk's Hood") is a species of Aconitum in the family Ranunculaceae, native and endemic to western and central Europe.

It is a herbaceous perennial plant growing to 1 m tall, with hairless stems and leaves. The leaves are rounded, 5-10 cm diameter, palmately divided into five to seven deeply lobed segments. The flowers are dark purple to bluish-purple, narrow oblong helmet-shaped, 1-2 cm tall.

*Aconitum napellus subsp. firmum (Rchb.) Gáyer. Central and eastern Europe.

*Aconitum napellus subsp. fissurae (Nyár.) W.Seitz. Balkans to southwest Russia.

*Aconitum napellus subsp. hians (Rchb.) Gáyer. Central Europe.

*Aconitum napellus subsp. superbum (Fritsch) W.Seitz. Western Balkans.

*Aconitum napellus subsp. tauricum (Wulfen) Gáyer. Eastern Alps, southern Carpathians.

*Aconitum napellus subsp. vulgare (DC.) Rouy & Foucaud. Alps, Pyrenees, northern Spain.

Plants native to Asia and North America formerly listed as A. napellus are now regarded as separate species.

Plants are grown in gardens in temperate zones for their spike-like inflorescences that are showy in early-mid summer and their attractive foliage. There are white and rose colored forms in cultivation too.
