Acoustic Guitar Tuning Without Tuner
Tuning your acoustic guitar without using another instrument (like a tuner or a pitch tool) is a very valuable skill.
In this lens you will learn how to tune each string by using another string of your guitar. For more detailed information visit Jamorama.com.
All you need is to make sure is that the sixth string has the correct sound (approximately). You always start with the low E on the 6th string!
Even if you don't know if the one string giving you the right sound, your guitar will still be tuned, only it will be tuned to whatever note you let your 6th string be.

Acoustic Guitar Tuning - Some Definitions
Some Terms Should be Clear When Learning to Tune an Acoustic Guitar
First of all, the most basic things to know before you start tuning your guitar:- Frets - Every guitar neck is divided into many frets and we start counting them from the top.
- Strings - The six strings of the guitar are numbered starting from the bottom up.
The standard acoustic guitar tuning consists of the notes E, A, D, G and B. The strings 1 and 6 are both tuned to the note E with a difference of two octaves.

Tuning the 5th String of an Acoustic Guitar
Tune the 5th String by Using the 6th
To get your 5th string in tune with the 6th string (the one that we already know is kind of ok), put your left finger on fret 5 of the 6th string and pick it to hear the sound. Now pick alternately the 5th and 6th string by tuning the 5th (tighten or release) until the sounds match.Note: you only need to play wih the 5th string here, so leave the 6th one alone. And don't get discouraged if the first time takes a little longer, you will get faster and used to it if you practice.
Tuning the Remaining Strings of an Acoustic Guitar
Tune Each of the Next Strings by Using the Previous One
Repeat the first step for each string by using the respective previous string. The following images show you which fret to place your finger on in each case:

This may sound a little queer the first time you try tuning your guitar. If this is the case, go back and repeat until it sounds good. The next time will prove much easier guaranteed.
