Martin Acoustic Guitars ... Every Guitarist's Dream Instrument

The C.F. Martin & Company manufactures some of the most highly prized acoustic guitars in the world and was established in 1833 by Christian Frederick Martin.

Martin is very highly regarded for its steel-string guitars, and is a leading mass manufacturer of flattop acoustics with models that retail for thousands of dollars and vintage instruments that often command six figures at resale.

The Martin company's headquarters and primary factory are located in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, located in the Lehigh Valley region of the state. It also manufactures instruments in Mexico. Martin Acoustic Guitars have gained a legendary status among serious players, during the year 1900, Martin produced only 182 instruments. By the year 2000 that figure had risen to over 24,000.

You will see many professional guitarists favoring Martin acoustics both vintage and new models. Guitar giants like Eric Clapton Paul Simon, Johnny Cash and Lawrence Juber have their own signature models.

Martin 000-28EC Acoustic Guitars

Eric Clapton Signature Model

A beautiful guitar worthy of a great player! Handcrafted with a premium East Indian rosewood back and sides and a bookmatched top of select quartersawn Sitka spruce. Its smaller 000 body size and short 24.9 scale help produce delicate, balanced tones. The rosette and soundboard are inlaid with herringbone wood marquetry, and the body is bound with grained ivoroid. An ebony fingerboard features a snowflake pattern in abalone pearl. Erics signature is inlaid in mother-of-pearl between the 19th and 20th frets. Tastefully appointed with hand-beveled tortoise pickguard, nickel-plated open-geared machines equipped with unique butterbean knobs. Each guitar bears an interior label, individually numbered in sequence.

000-28EC and 000-28ECB: Two of the five "Eric Clapton" signature models. Same size as the Martin 000-15, constructed with higher-quality woods (especially the more expensive 000-28ECB constructed from the extremely rare Brazilian species of rosewood, hence the "B"), a slightly different shape to the neck, and more ornamentation around the edge of the body.

Great lens. I hope to own a Martin one day, but I better hurry, my fingers are not as limber as the once were. I've always dreamed of owning a Martin D35.

Martin D-35 Dreadnought Guitar

Martin D-35 Dreadnought Guitar

Amazon Price: $1,999.99 (as of 05/28/2012)Buy Now

Martin D-35 DreadnoughtThe D-35 was introduced in 1965 in response to a shortage of Brazilian rosewood stock large enough to finish 2-piece Dreadnought-sized backs.

The resultant three-piece back -- triangular center wedge and matching outer "wings" -- follows a centuries-old tradition among European and Spanish luthiers of building multi-piece backs. Martin's three-piece back design is especially striking.

Extra wide bindings, bound ebony fingerboard and ebony bridge add to the distinctiveness of this model; but the appeal of the D-35 is more than just visual.Tonally, the three-piece back produces a particularly strong bass, making the D-35 ideal for rhythm playing.

To accentuate the treble, Martin uses lighter 1/4" top braces which give the D-35 its characteristic warmth and balance.

Martin D-28 DreadnoughtSince its introduction in 1931, the Martin D-28 has remained the standard by which all large-bodied, steel stringed acoustic guitars are measured.

The large "Dreadnought" sized body, originated by Frank H. Martin and Oliver Hunt in 1916, is named for a class of large British battleship and was considered a radical departure from small parlor-sized guitars of the period.

Today, it is the most widely imitated guitar model in the world. The body of the D-28, built extra wide and deep, utilizes select East Indian rosewood for back and sides, and straight-grained Sitka spruce for the top. The neck is hand-carved from genuine mahogany; the fingerboard and bridge are genuine ebony.

It is this combination of materials and body dimensions, as well as the Martin originated X-brace system, that produces the renowned "D-28 sound" -- warm, deep bass response coupled with a strong, clear-as-a-bell treble.

The D-28 is particularly well suited to bluegrass and country music styles requiring loud, powerful rhythm accompaniment. The original Dreadnought -- and still the best.
