Acoustic Guitar Lessons Online

Acoustic guitars are functionally and structurally different than electric guitars in many ways. Having a hollowed, wooden body, acoustic guitars are not made to fit the form of the player (unlike electric guitars are), but are made for an ideal resonance of sound in mind. Typically having nylon strings (versus an electric guitar's steel strings), it's usually preferred to pluck an acoustic guitar using bare fingers instead of with a guitar pick-unless you're playing a specific genre of music that calls for using picks, slides, or other playing utilities. Learning how to play the acoustic guitar will also be a different method of instruction than learning to play the electric guitar, and somewhat easier due to the lack of needing to worry about pickups, the amplifier, or distorted sound that is linked with learning the electric guitar. As such, it may make more sense to use the internet to search for acoustic guitar lessons online, rather than using a traditional method of learning.

As a retronym, 'acoustic' was only added to these types of guitars after the popularity of electric guitars grew, necessitating a qualifier to help make a distinction between the two. As such, the 'true' guitar type is the acoustic guitar as the electric models are simply variations of the classic guitar style and function. Most acoustic guitar lessons online will take the fact that learning the acoustic guitar is a pre-cursor towards eventually learning on the electric guitar into account, which makes sense as it is often recommended to learn in that order for maximum efficiency. Beginning acoustic guitar players can expect to become familiarized with the anatomy of the guitar, the stringing and tuning procedures, learning the fretboard/fingerboard, and getting experience reading standard notation (along with tablature and scale/chord charts) before they're ready to learn with an electric guitar.

The benefit of using online sources for acoustic guitar lessons is an increased amount of flexibility for setting your own pace. If you don't have the time to finish a lesson in a single day, simply bookmark the page you left off on and continue at your earliest convenience. You'll also gain the ability to stay at home while learning, helping new players to maintain a comfortable environment that may be impossible to recreate while taking a guitar class or using a private guitar trainer. Online lessons make more sense with acoustic guitars since the basics are the same for every model, whereas every different electric guitar (combined with various pickup placements) attached with any given amplifier will not only sound different, but will carry a different feel due to their random shape.

Taking acoustic guitar lessons online can provide strong core techniques for a new player, and quickly give them a rundown of the basics of playing. Of course, the new player is encouraged to seek more methods of instruction if they are ready to go on to more advanced techniques, perhaps by joining a band to gain real experience or even trying out an electric guitar curriculum to see which type they work best with.
