How to use acrylic stamps

Acrylic stamps are by far one of the best advances in modern scrapbooking supplies on the market today. They are versatile and easy to use. One of the best things about acrylic stamps is that you can actually see where you are stamping on your paper. Less mistakes mean less waste and less stress on you as you try to preserve your memories. They also clean up easily in soap and water or baby wipes, and are easily stored on the plastic sheet that comes with them. The sheets can all be placed in notebooks etc, for easy access.

Acrylic stamps are made from a clear polymer substance that makes it slightly sticky on the back. The cling will go away with use, but a simple rinse with water and soap will restore the cling for years of use.

To use an acrylic stamp, you will need an acrylic block to mount the stamp. These acrylic blocks come in different sizes, but as long as your stamp fits on it with no parts hanging off the edge, any brand or size is fine. Unlike rubber stamps, acrylic stamps only need to be mounted when in use. That means your acrylic block can be used over and over for many different stamps, and you stamps are easily stored because they do not have a permanent piece of wood attached to each stamp, like the traditional rubber stamp. To mount, simply peel your acrylic stamp off the plastic backing it comes on and place on the acrylic block..seriously, that's it! I told you it was simple :o)

Acrylic stamps are great for stamping background images such as flourishes on scrapbook pages, and for making embellishments to add to your scrapbook pages and greeting cards. A fun idea is to stamp an image on a decorative sheet of paper and then emboss it using embossing powders and a heat tool. Then images can also be colored in using colored pencils, craft chalk, or markers.

Some acrylic blocks come with grid lines, so if you want to line an image up, it is very easy. Also, if you have a set of letter stamps, simply line up the word you want along the grid lines and it will be completely straight (remember to spell backwards though so your words come out the right way around).

Acrylic stamps should be stored out of the sunlight because it may cause some yellowing of the polymer. The yellowing doesn't cause any problem for using your stamps, they just won't be so nice and clear, and your image also may not appear as clear when you are looking through your block to stamp. With a minimum of care, your acrylic stamps will be a useful tool in your scrapbook supply stash for years to come.
