A.C.T. Energy Drink Review. Does A.C.T. Energy Drink Work?

Over the years I have tried dozens of energy drinks all of which have come with a number of issues for me. Most had too much caffeine, high in sugars, artificial sweeteners and flavourings which led to peaks and troughs and stomach cramps on long runs ...and often nausea after drinking too many.

I first started consuming energy drinks when I ran my own design agency. Working very long hours usually meant I'd end up taking a stimulant to keep me going during the stress of deadlines.

So, as you can imagine I was keen to try this healthy A.C.T. stuff as soon as I heard about it. The ad blurb stated it provides vital support and supplementation at the "cellular level" and in a form that is healthy to the body.

It is made of all natural ingredients and high in potassium, which is important for energy and cellular metabolism. Every cell in your body depends on energy to perform the function of that cell. With only 22 calories, A.C.T. is a perfect fit for any lifestyle ...including mine! It's also a great way to get a full day's supply of B and C vitamins, or the energy vitamins, plus healthy Green Tea and juice extracts. I guess that's why many high top notch professional athletes are getting good results before, during and after training.

Okay, this A.C.T. powder mix took me a while to review and test out in the field so to speak. I've now gone through 60 pouches of this stuff to try and get the most accurate representation of what it does, and can do for you. I gotta to tell ya, I felt like a new individual after taking this energy drink for over a week.

Ok, let's begin...

The manufacturer DrinkACT make a lot of claims about A.C.T. product providing a more kinda sustained energy, so I really wanted to put it through its paces and see how it lived up to the rah-rah hype and published Dealer / pro athlete testimonials.

Cost: $1.00 17 gram pouch. Now that's a good price for starters!

The good stuff: Guarana, Green Tea, Ginseng, Taurine, Maca, Stevia

The cool stuff: 22 calories, 20mg sodium, total 4g sugars, total carb 5g

The wow stuff: 450mg POTASSIUM.

You don't often see that in an energy drink and it's great because Potassium is an electrolyte, one of the essential minerals that your body requires for proper metabolism and energy use. The transfer of energy and electricity between neurons and other cells depends on a proper balance of potassium on both sides of the cell wall.

In practical terms, potassium is needed to help your body regulate blood pressure, convert glucose to glycogen, maintain healthy kidneys, heart, liver, and lower the risk of stroke.

First off, lets get flavour thingy out of the way ...What does A.C.T. energy drink taste like?

Ummm... that's kinda hard to explain, because at different times I taste different things. Sometimes I tasted cranberry (though there is no cranberry indicated as an ingredient) sometimes I tasted cherry, and some times I tasted a sort of fruit punch. Actually, it did taste really good when mixed as a Cranberry smoothie, but then I love Cranberry juice so I'm bias!

Okay, the subtleties changed depending on the drinks temperature and how strong I mixed it. However, I'd say on average it's more a cherry flavoured drink with a slightly bitter kick to it (less so now that they added Crystalline Fructose) ...maybe it's a bit of the green tea in the back of it all, I'm not really sure. But after the first few pouches I warmed to the flavour much more.

What I can be sure of is that it tasted MUCH better cold and mixed with a bit more water than is recommended on the pack. It mixed well too after a quick shake, no lumpy bits left at the bottom like you do with some powder drinks.

The package calls for 8 oz of water, but I found that 16 oz worked best for me. In truth it goes fairly well in some type of juice (I got it mixed into both OJ and a Cranberry smoothie ok ...a banana smoothie is knockout, all that potassium makes me quicker than the Road Runner! Beep! Beep!

A.C.T. is not something I would drink just for the taste. The first couple of sips hit your taste buds hard if you follow the suggested mix printed on the pouch, but after a few drinks A.C.T. became quite tolerable and almost favourable. The addition of crystallised fruit sugar has definitely enhanced the flavour, making it more smooth and palatable to drink.

Okay, so now how does it work? Pretty darn well actually ...While A.C.T. never really gave me a huge energy rush, it did in fact give me more sustained energy for many hours. During my work outs and lane swimming sessions I found that I was able to just keep on going ...I had FAR more energy than normal and I kept feeling the need to push my body farther and harder than when working out without it ...and my muscle recovery felt good taking it straight after the training sessions too!

I tried a few days with A.C.T., a few days without, and then a few days with again. The days I took A.C.T. about 20 minutes before working out were far more productive and I felt I had better strength, speed and endurance. On top of that, the effects lasted for several hours which is a big plus!

Now as I mentioned above I never really got a rush per say ...but I did get a solid boost which lasted many hours ...and when blended with a banana that energy boost lasted a much longer.

While typical stimulant energy drinks like RedBull give me a short power boost, A.C.T. gave me a more balanced energy ...I guess you could describe it like a battery and a capacitor. RedBull would be the capacitor ...it gives you a nice quick jolt ...this stuff is like a full battery ...more energy over a longer period of time.

Now I've read a few ads on the Internet that claim this stuff works for 7 hours ...for me it lasted about 4.5hrs, but I am guessing that varies quite a bit from person to person. Regardless of the duration, A.C.T. actually works ...it's definitely worth trying out even if you're not a fitness freak and just feel sleepy in the afternoons or feel drowsy behind the wheel.

In summary... As I am very health conscious, into fitness, healthy eating, and regularly working out, I definitely noticed real benefits from taking A.C.T. ...it slowly released energy into my body making significant gains in both endurance, mental sharpness, and aided my recovery well after hard training.

I have found this energy drink product works well for me, and really does what it says it does. I've just ordered another bulk consignment as I don't want to run out ...and now some friends have heard about my results want to try it too.
