- TV advertising can be important part of promotion but we should be very cautious about expenses. If I decide to advertise on TV, I will check and double check all the numbers (and I will do that with several marketing professionals I know).

- Good point! Keep in mind that the ad agencies don't set the prices on TV stations, the TV stations do. We come up with the TV schedule that is most likely to reach your best clients. For example if your clients are mostly young women then we use our research to find the best deals on TV shows that are watched by young women. This is where having an experienced media buyer is so important. Of course the TV commercial production is important too. Ideally we want to have a great message directed at your most likely consumers.

- not certain if this is still true but a few years back we used to buy commercials from a local comcast rep. for about 10.00 per 30 sec spot. the commercials would run on the normal channels on cable. they were the excess spots that wern't sold byt tbs espn etc. This was a great value

- I think that TV advertising should work well in North Miami Beach or Aventura where I'm a dentist. I don't see any dentists advertising on TV so I should be able to get some attention. I'd be the dentist everyone thinks of since no other dentist is advertising in Aventura.

- I wouldn't make such a broad statement about any form of advertising. Sure a lot of businesses do very well with online advertising. In fact it is where we began our company in 1995 by offering online advertising. However, this doesn't mean that TV no longer has value. We still see many businesses being very effective with TV advertising and I'm sure that isn't going to end anytime soon. Just as the switch from broadcast TV (3 networks) to cable TV gave us more ways to target a specific group of people online advertising is one more way to reach people. It certainly doesn't mean that TV advertising is no longer effective. We often show a website address in our TV commercials where we can direct people to the website so they can get more information.

- Additionally we do have a website all about viral marketing as it is one of the services we offer. There is no one form of advertising which will replace all others. When we combine more than one form of advertising it has a multiplying effect rather than an additive effect. For example when our clients advertise on TV and online or if they use TV advertising combined with direct mail they see the results multiplied. What I mean is that if you expect a certain rate of response ONLY with TV advertising and a specific rate of response ONLY with online advertising when you do both at the same time then you see greater results than you'd expect. What happens is that the public gets your message in more than one place and it creates the feeling that you must be a bigger more reputable company. This is only one reason why people will continue to use TV advertising.

- TV advertising is gone and dead, people are annoyed by the fact that they are force fed with uninspired commercials. On the web on the other hand, they can search on specialized sites for exactly the product they need, that's why e-bay, Amazon and various used cars sites make huge profits.

- TV advertising is far from dead. Sure lots of people use the Internet; I use it every day but I still watch TV. The Neilson ratings show that with the variety of TV shows on all the different networks people are now able to watch what they want. This has become a dream come true for TV advertising because we can now better target the people we are trying to reach by advertising on specific TV shows.

- I definitely agree, television still plays a vital role in the many ways. People still do like watching commercials, they still watch tv, and they are still influenced by them. To say tv is dead is definitely an unfounded statement. Companies wasting millions of dollars on something that doesn't work? I don't think so. Again, people still are more susceptible to factors such as - "If you see it on TV, it's gotta be real." This is not just about gullibility. There are ingrained "laws" at work that most consumers, even you, are susceptible to: consumers adhere to what seems to be an authority , or to similarity, or "something that the jones' have", to name a few. Certain industries work best online. But people still must search specifically what they want, rarely browsing just to browse. Whose site do you think will claim legitimacy, or will get more specific search hits - Someone who has put money into creating either conscious recognition with a good, creative, engaging commercial (or a subconcious one by being funny and confusing) - or someone relying on google ad-words and pay per click?
Here is my general statement - people trust tv more than Internet.

- It seems that the public believes that if someone is advertising on TV they must be reputable. People have the mistaken belief that if a company is allowed to advertise on TV then they must have first been approved by the FCC or some other government agency. Of course this isn't true at all but people seem to think so.
