Adam Sandler Movie List

If only they gave critical acclaim for unrestrained fits of rage. If only we lived in a world where we lavished praise on movies catering for the very lowest common denominator of humour. Well, Adam Sandler may not have any Oscar statues, but he does have millions and millions of dollars. Oh, and don't forget the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss he got with Drew Barrymore for The Wedding Singer.

Adam Sandler Movies

Adam Sandler in Billy MadisonSay what you will about Adam Sandler and his films, knowing exactly what his audience wants has allowed Sandler's movies to amass nearly US two billion dollars at the box-office. He has an extremely loyal fan base, mostly likely due to the following he created from high school and college students watching Saturday Night Live, Happy Gilmore and The Waterboy in their impressionable formative years. I should know, I'm one of them...

This lens will list all of the Adam Sandler films as well as give a brief biography, his vast critical acclaim and some of his best movie quotes.

Adam Sandler

A brief biography of his career

Most people know that Adam Sandler first shot to fame on the TV show Saturday Night Live. However, he also had earlier appearances on MTV's Remote Control (1987 to 1990) and as Smitty on the Cosby Show (1987 - 1988).

It was on Saturday Night Live that Sandler began earning the fan base that would carry him through a successful film career. He worked on SNL from 1990 to 1995, featuring prominently with frequent collaborators David Spade and Rob Schneider as well as the late Chris Farley.

His early film career included pre-SNL Going Overboard in 1989 and Airheads in 1994. However, in 1995 he got the big break that would set the template for the many film success that were to follow, Billy Madison. Sandler played the title character, someone who appeals to the audiences but is often selfish and prone to uncontrolled bouts of anger; someone who is pitched against a smug overachiever. Sound familiar?

Happy Gilmour polished the Billy Madison template in 1996 and by 1998 Sandler was ready for his watershed year. In 1998 Sandler confirmed his place as a comedy star and leading man in The Waterboy and The Wedding Singer. Big Daddy, one of Sandler's most financially successful films, followed in 1999.

Unfortunately this was to be the last of the golden era for Adam Sandler. After Big Daddy his fan base was getting more mature while at the same time he started trying to appeal to a broader audience. One of Sandler's most panned films, even by his fans, was 2000's Little Nicky. Since then Sandler has continued to make financial successful films, but without the quote-ability of his earlier work, although Mr Deeds (2002) is looked at fondly by most of his fans.

Adam Sandler has made some brief forays into dramatic work with positive, if not financial, acclaim. These include Punch Drunk Love, Reign Over Me and Funny People.

I have a love hate relationship with Adam Sandler. Sometimes he is very sensitive and I love him, like in 50 first dates. Then other times he is just crass. Oh well. I enjoyed your lens. Blessed!
