A Day of Hope Fundraising on Squidoo

If you're viewing this page you are either a Squidoo Lensmaster or you've been sent a link to this page by Christopher Scott.

Either way his hope is that you can learn more about fundraising for A Day of Hope by using Squidoo.com.

Squidoo.com is a great tool to raise money and awareness for A Day of Hope. As of Sep 21st, 2008 over $1,600 has been raised for A Day of Hope from Squidoo and its many Lensmasters.

These are individual everyday people such as yourself who donate their time to A Day of Hope by making simple web pages (Squidoo calls them "lenses") that earn income with a portion of that income being donated back to A Day of Hope.

Feel free to read more below about how you can raise money and awareness for A Day of Hope to help them feed needy families for Thanksgiving.

What is A Day of Hope?

A Day of Hope is a program of ASI at California State University, Stanislaus that delivers baskets of food and turkeys to families for Thanksgiving.

Volunteers spend time fundraising and gathering food throughout the year to piece together everything a family might need to have a Thanksgiving dinner.

Over the last three years enthusiastic volunteers have delivered 415 baskets of food to 415 families, resulting in over 2,000 people having a Thanksgiving meal.

New to Squidoo?

We're glad you're here. And welcome. If you're new and trying to figure out what Squidoo is all about, here's a little background.

About Squidoo
Squidoo is a hand-built collection of nearly a million pages built by people just like you. Squidoo is about finding people when you care what they know instead of who they know. And Squidoo raises big money for charity every single day by donating money from the ads and links you see on every page.

Do something great: volunteer!

One of the great things about using Squidoo to fundraise for A Day of Hope is that you are able to donate your time whenever you want.

No need to drive anywhere or see anyone. You can sit in front of your computer with a Red Bull, cup of tea, or Pepsi and make lenses that will donate money to A Day of Hope on a monthly basis.

Want to see it in action?

Here are five examples of everyday people like you who are using Squidoo to build lenses that support A Day of Hope.

I've signed up, built a lens, now what?

Once you've created an account on Squidoo and finished building your first lens, you need to make sure you have instructed Squidoo to donate your lens earnings to A Day of Hope.

To do this, go to the lensmaster workshop where you began building and creating your lens. Then look to the right hand side of the page and you will see a title that says, "Payment Options." Once you've found this, click on the orange button that says, "edit" which is located just under the "Payment Options" title. Select "A Day of Hope" from the drop down menu, click save, and you're ready to rock-n-roll!

If you're still having trouble, view the picture below.

Make sure you choose to donate your earnings

What modules should I include on my lens?

That's a very important question.

Here is a list of the modules that Christopher includes on all of the lenses that he makes:
  • Donation Module - Make sure you select A Day of Hope as the nonprofit from the drop down menu
  • Featured Lens Module - Put A Day of Hope as the featured lens by adding "adayofhope" to the open area. This will direct visitor's to A Day of Hope's main Squidoo lens
  • Amazon Module - Amazon modules are great to use to sell books related to the topic your lens is about.
  • Twitter Module - Twitter is a mini blogging service people use to follow other people. Type in "ADayofHope" as the Twitter username.
  • YouTube Module - If you can find videos related to your topic on YouTube, I suggest you add them. They will help your vistors stay engaged and entertained, making them more likely to purchase something from your lens.
  • eBay Module - The eBay Module is one of my favorites because you can set up the module to search for eBay items as they are listed.
  • Text Module - The Text Module is your chance to work some magic. Share your personal stories, insights, or anything else you know about the topic you're building a lens about in the Text Module.

Donate to A Day of Hope

A Day of Hope is a program of the CSU, Stanislaus Foundation that delivers baskets of food and turkeys to needy families in Stanislaus County for Thanksgiving.

We at Squidoo passionately believe in creating new ways to support good causes online. By making a donation to A Day of Hope from this page, you are sending money directly to that organization, in whatever amount you want. We don't touch it. We don't even see it. The author of this page doesn't either. And if you made it this far, thanks for caring.

About the Founder, Christopher Scott

Christopher Scott is a nonprofit leader who founded A Day of Hope, a program of California State University, Stanislaus that delivers baskets of food and turkeys to families in need for Thanksgiving.

His passion to start A Day of Hope came in 2005 after reading a book about someone who received a basket of food for Thanksgiving. The person attributed that basket of food to his lifelong success and mission to help other people.

After reading the story Christopher set the goal to deliver 30 baskets of food and turkeys to 30 families that Thanksgiving. After a lot of hard work Christopher and friends delivered 48 baskets of food and turkeys to 48 families.

He currently works for the United Way of Stanislaus in Modesto, CA as a Campaign Associate. He develops and maintains partnerships with local businesses to give, advocate, and volunteer to make a difference in their community.

An avid blogger, Christopher is always trying to find new ways to reach out and help more people. Whether it's by delivering a food basket on Thanksgiving to a needy family, speaking about nonprofit leadership to a small group, helping a nonprofit organization recruit volunteers, or just being a mentor to someone else that wants to have a positive impact on the world.

Christopher lives in his small apartment in Turlock, CA.
