Add A Music Playlist To Your Squidoo Lens Using Grooveshark

Ranked #2,788 in Squidoo Community, #214,729 overall

Share and stream your favorite music easily.

If you love writing about music on Squidoo, naturally you'd want your readers to listen to what you're raving about. Fortunately there are various ways to add music to your lenses but I've found that Grooveshark is the best option for me because of their vast collection of music that ranges from the ubiquitous to the hard-to-find. I will show you how to do that in a while.

If you've chanced upon my alternative music and indie rock lenses, you'll have noticed that the songs I often refer to border on the obscure but guess what, I'm able to find the titles I want to stream via Grooveshark. Another great thing about it is that it's available for international use so that's good news to those of us who aren't in the US. Its ease of use and no-fuss integration with Squidoo is pretty much icing on the cake. If you want to learn more, please stay with me until we get to the end of the page.

I made this playlist using Grooveshark and added it on to this lens with just a click of a button. Press play, sit back and then read on because I'll be showing you how simple it is to make one (or more) for your lens too.

How to make a playlist widget for your Squidoo lens

In just a few easy steps.

1. First, you must create a Grooveshark account. Don't worry, registration is free and it won't take you more than a minute.

2. The next step is to look for songs you'd like to include in your playlist. Just type the song title or musician's name in the space. To save on time, you can pre-select songs from your library on your pc and then just refer to the list as you build your playlist online.

3. Once you've found the song you want to feature, click on the little cross beside the song title to add it to your work-in-progress playlist.

4. Once you're satisfied with the selections on your work-in-progress playlist, save the playlist.

5. Select your playlist from the sidebar on the left to display the songs on the main window then click on the "share" button on the upper right. Click "export" on the pop-up window that appears.

6. Make sure to select "mirror changes" before creating your widget. This will allow you to make changes to your playlist from Grooveshark without having to replace the playlist on your Squidoo lens in the future.

7. Now comes the fun part. Customize your widget's width, height, and color theme using the provided tools. Hit "finish" once you're done.

8. A window containing logos of different social networks will appear. In this case we'll be choosing Squidoo, of course. A window asking "submit to Squidoo?" will open, just hit "open".

9. A new browser tab (or window, depending on your settings) will open. Make sure you're logged on to Squidoo then choose the lens you want to add the playlist on from the drop-down menu (the lens need not be published yet but it must already exist or else it won't appear on the menu), add a heading and a subhead in the text fields and hit continue.

10. That's it! The playlist is now on the Squidoo lens, ready to be streamed.
