How to Add a Pleasing View in a Windowless Room
Ranked #38,627 in Education, #676,024 overall
Human beings naturally crave sunshine, sky and natural scenery so when a room has no windows or has very small windows that don't allow outdoor views inside, the room can feel claustrophobic and dark. There are several creative design tricks that can be used to make a windowless room feel brighter and more expansive. No need for a sledgehammer or bulldozer. All that's need is the right combination of wall decor and decorative wall art and a little creativity.

Make Magic with Mirrors
Use mirrors to create the illusion of space, punching a hole in the wall and creating a 'window' wherever you need it. Create a unique window effect by choosing four framed mirrors in the same style and size. Hang the mirrors so that they appear adjoined in a two-by-two grid that mimics a pane window.
Or use large framed mirrors repeated across a wall to create a bank of windows where none existed. Complete the disguise by hanging curtain panels, decorative café rod and valance. In a room with low ceiling, make the walls taller by setting the curtain rod high on the wall, just below the ceiling with framed mirrors of an appropriately scale height.
Make a garden window by adding a shelf directly below the mirror 'window' where plants and collectibles can be displayed. Or hang a highly realistic faux green plant in front of the 'window' with a wrought iron wall hook for a true optical illusion of greenery and light.
Hang groupings of mirrors opposite of each other in small dark space to capture and reflect all available light and give the impression that the room's walls are open to natural light and scenery.
Use a grouping of mirrors above a mantel or piece of furniture. Hexagonal mirrors, round or shaped beveled mirrors, even vintage silvered hand mirrors, can be arranged like decorative wall art, adding reflected light as well as style and design.
Use a framed mirror on an awkward or narrow wall to make it appear brighter and larger as it attracts and reflects light.

Combine Metal Wall Hangings with Mirrors
Metal wall hangings and wrought iron wall art is available with a mirrored background that will add light and depth to a space along with decorative appeal. Other pieces incorporate mirrors into the border or design which will help bring needed brilliance to a small or dark room.Create a collage of dimension and texture by combining framed wall mirrors with metal wall hangings in a finish that echoes the frame on the mirror. Burnished metals, wrought iron and polished chrome repeated throughout the grouping will create emphasis and repetition that will draw the eye, so use this trick to your advantage - pulling the eye away from dark cramped spaces.
Scenic Acrylic Art
Richly detailed acrylic wall art will let you create a view where none exists. Whether your preference is snow-capped mountains, breathtaking seascapes or verdant meadows, realistic colorful acrylic wall art will give you many choices in creating a room with a view. Frame acrylic art with metal wall artwork of a similar style and complementary color to fill a large space and create a unique focal point.
