Add Some SPARKLE

Add BLING to a plain old wine glass.

Here's my plain old wine glass on the left and then the "after" glass with pretty sparkling gems. The package of gems only cost me $2.99 and it contains plenty of gems to do a few sets of glasses.

In addition to adding some bling, It feels good to hold these glasses because the gems give you something to hold on to. The glasses aren't as slippery. But keep the gems away from the rim. It'll be awkward to drink over them.

Since I've done these, I've ordered some plain margarita glasses. Once I decide on the gem color, I'm going to make them look glamorous and give them as a holiday gift.

Use any kind of glass or plastic.

Do a whole set for a wedding gift.

Lot's of gem choices

I like acrylic, glass or crystals

type=text

There are tons of choices in your local craft store. I use the acrylic jewels with the flat silver back. They sparkle enough for me. But I suppose there are crafters out there who would go directly to the Swarovski crystals and that's okay too. You'll pay a few dollars more, but you can't beat the quality.

Some of the gems you may want to use are really tiny. Just a typical pair of tweezers from the drug store is what you need to place them.

Stick 'em with silicone

type=textI use the Premium Waterproof Silicone. Make sure you get the CLEAR so it won't show thru the glass. It is as permanent as you can get and it's easy to use. I just squeeze a dot onto a toothpick and then dot it on a clean glass. Then press your gem onto the dot. That's it.

If you're using tweezers, keep them clean. Wipe off any silicone between gem applications or you won't be able to handle the gems cleanly.

Don't buy any gems with adhesive backing. That adhesive is not good enough for a wine glass that you're going to have to wash. You definitely need clear silicone. Silicone is what's used in fish tanks. That adhesive stuff on the back of the cheap gems won't do and it's too much trouble to get it off.

You'll be amazed at how little silicone it takes and how strong the bond is. I always hand wash my decorated glasses. I would not advise putting them in the dishwasher.

If you've done household repairs, you might already have one of these products in your basement or garage.

How about picture frames?

Add sparkle to almost anything

type=text

See the subtle shading on the flowers on the frame? I just added a gem to the center of each. (And it kills me to hold back. Someday, I'm going to cover something completely with gems. I just don't know what yet.)

Once you get the hang of this (using a small amount of silicone and handling tiny gems), you can make anything sparkle.

There's no end to it. Bling!

Get some ideas by searching for products already decked out with gems. You can probably do the same thing yourself.

    I've recently introduced my girls to beadcrafting and they're finding loads of ways to express their creativity, on picture frames, plates and ore :)

    I could put these gems on some candles I have. Great craft idea!
