" and "Happy Feet
" but one species of penguin wins out against all others. That penguin is the Adelie penguin.The wonderfully cute Adelie penguin may look overweight to many people, but it is just short and wide. The tallest Adelie penguins are at most thirty inches. They can live up to twenty years.
Identifying them is as simple as finding small penguins with white rings around their eyes. A white ring can also be found at the end of their bill, and their tail is longer than average. Eager penguin spotters can find the Adelie penguin all around the Antarctic. Over five million of these penguins live in and around the Ross Sea. Thirty-eight large Adelie colonies have been identified by various researchers in that area.
Adelie penguins are not just social, but they appear to be fun loving birds as well. They slide around on the ice on their stomachs and can often be seen sledding down snowy hills. Penguins do that to get from place to place quickly and easily. Many simply enjoy how cute it all looks. The Adelie penguin's social behavior and entertaining method of travel has made it one of the most famous penguin species in the world.

- I have been fortunate enough to have seen Adelie penguins many times in their native Antarctica. The most amazing time was when I was allowed to accompany one of the scientists studying at McMurdo Station on a trip to Cape Royds, which has an Adelie penguin colony (as well as Shackleton's hut). Amazing trip! I sat and watched the Adelies for a couple of hours. Mesmerizing! Back at home I have a bunch of photos from that day. One of these days I'll make an Antarctic lens from my years on the Ice... Great lens that brings back wonderful memories! *Blessed!*

- I never tire of watching penguin films. Their lifestyle is amazing and seems playful. Such social birds - with traits quite like we humans. The pebble thief video is interesting, but the swimming and jumping made me laugh out loud when one penguin shoved the others back into the water. Such antics!
