- Yes, Barry (Turbulence 63) I have seen Generation RX and in almost every article I write, I mention the dangers of abusing prescription drugs. In THIS lens, I wrote :- "Behavior modification will enable children to avoid risky drugs and all the problems they bring". What else do you expect me to do?? I have written 1,200 articles on ADHD and almost always mention the risks of drugs and how they cannot be the whole answer to ADHD.
What do you want me to do - chain myself to Capitol Hill?? Give me a break!

- My friend don't be so offended. No one is asking you to go to Capital Hill...there are others for that job.
But if you saw Generation RX and I am sure you did ...you will understand that the whole concept of ADHD is a made up condition to be diagnosed in children ...who evidently are only experiencing the new things that are being brought to them in life. Obviously a new being that has only been in this world for 5-10 years is going to have a rampant imagination ...and will always have difficulty in listening and paying attention...this is NORMAL:This ADHD condition is fallacy ....and conjured up to use children as a marketing tool for the sale these drugs... just as the whole documentary is stating. I hope you didn't miss that part.
Now where was this ADHD 30 years ago...there was no such thing. Every child in this world will experience phases of inattention ..anger...depression ..as they develop through there childhood and adolesence. But this has never been an uncommon condition ..in fact it is the norm...and them (children) getting through it is what we have already done. Heck...if there was ever such a thing as ADHD then i guess i was ADHD...and my Dad, mother, brothers and friends too.
If you really paid attention to generation RX you have noted that when asked what the symptoms of ADHA were , the FDA couldn't even answer it ...why? Because its a made up condition. The reason they couldn't answer is because they would have been revealing to the parents the very normal things that children experince...imagination..depression...anger ...all the thing we as human beings are supposed to feel and experience...and how we approach, react, and get over these familiar moods and feelings are what builds our integrity, character and understanding of who we are. There is no condition, mental or physical that is all of a sudden affecting our children.
And here is the kicker...recently the FDA has been considering to set diagnosis in children at the age of 3 years. That right ..children that have only just learned to walk 2 years earlier. Now .. you tell me....if that is not a corrupt ploy to market these drugs to treat this conjured up condition they call ADHD then there must be an epidemic in America. And if you believe that this condition truly exists then you have been duped.
My friend you lens is good and very informative but only to the ones that believe this world wide conjured up fallacy. I'm not being rude just giving your lens the other side.
Thanks
Barry

- Thanks Barry for giving us the other side. I think we agree on many points such as lowering the diagnosis age to 3, the overuse of drugs, the superficial diagnosis and so on. But ADHD is still a reality we have to live with and I think we can do a lot to raise awareness of some of the problem areas.

- While I do agree that Behavior Modification Therapy is an important aspect of any ADHD treatment program, I also feel that the bad hype that stimulants have received are unfair.
While ADHD has become overly diagnosed, in which case stimulants are clearly NOT the answer, for those people who are genuinely afflicted narcotics are a safe, effective treatment.
I do appreciate your insight though, and I believe that the majority of what you said is very true. Great article, and brilliantly written!

- Thanks ADDer gals - great to get a well thought out comment! I just published another article 'Are ADHD Drugs Bad?'- see it here at the top of my Ezine Articles. My concluding sentence:- 'We should keep in mind that the question, are ADHD drugs bad, cannot be answered in any definitive way. Every parent has to weigh up the pros and cons and then decide. Certainly, using ADHD meds and implementing no other lifestyle changes is very risky in my opinion'

- I do not see the benefits of behavior therapy. Often people with ADHD will already know exactly what to do in any situation. We can learn after all. However, doing it is a completely different story.

- This is a wonderful and comprehensive page of the different tactics that can be used to help those challenged by ADHD. Often times, raising an ADHD child makes the whole schooling process as difficult on the parent as it does on the child. Great job - this is a featured lens on my new back-to-school planning page at http://www.squidoo.com/back-to-school-planning . Thanks!
