Adidas Footwear and Clothing

Adidas AG is among the leading manufacturers of sports goods in Germany, was founded by Adolf (Adi) Dassler. Adidas AG is a part of Adidas group which consists of some giant sports line manufacturer such as Reebok Shoes, Taylormade Golf Company, Maxfli Golf Balls and Adidas Golf. Adidas group has proved itself as a global leader in the sporting goods industry.

Adolf Dassler started to manufacture shoes in 1920 at Herzogenaurach with the assistance of his brother, Rudolf Dassler, who later founded another shoe company known as Puma AG. In 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, they provided their sports shoes without any cost to the athletes for marketing purpose. After 8 years, this marketing strategy produced a well deserved result when an American sprinter Jesse Owens won a gold medal in racing at the Berlin Olympic Games, wearing Adidas sports shoes. By 1931 both brothers were manufacturing special shoes for tennis players, and they soon realized that there is a need to manufacture specific shoes for specific sports game.

In 1948, both brothers had a dispute and they decided to split out their business. On 18th August, 1949, Adolf Dassler registered his footwear company with the name of "Adidas AG".

Adidas AG did not started selling its sports shoes in the United States until 1968, but when they introduced their sports shoes in America they started to gain immense popularity and dominated the whole American market within a short period of time. Wilson and MacGregor vanished from the seen very soon just because of the complete dominance of Adidas shoes in American market. In 1971 historical fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier both wore Adidas. In 972 Munich Olympic Games each and every official wore Adidas and majority of the national and international athletes wore Adidas. Their revenue and popularity reached at its peak in 1970s when Adidas completely dominated American market.

Adolf Dassler died in 1978 and his son Horst took charge of the company but he failed to draw well planned strategies against the gradually increasing popularity of newly formed company, Nike. In 1980, because of this careless behavior Adidas revenue was far behind from the Nike. In 1980s, Adidas had only one happy moment that came in 1986, when the New York based rap group Run D.M.C had a hit song named "My Adidas," which was an honor to the Adidas footwear and later Adidas signed them for their brand building strategy. Adidas is still trying to regain their key features and values which were the essence of their great success in the era of 1970s when they completed dominated the whole footwear industry.

Adidas shoes are always preferred due to wonderful designs, unique styles and quality. Adidas shoes have been worn by so many star athletes, who participated in various World Cup and Olympic matches and they brought medals to their home wearing Adidas collection.
