Adirondack chairs have been around for many more years than I first realized. Another fact I was unaware of is that they are strictly an American invention. Here is a little of their story.
Over the years, the Adirondack chair has become the classic icon when anyone things of lazy summer days, hot sand and cold Margarita's. There is a feeling of care free living whenever we see pictures of the chair on an empty beach, the waves rolling onto the shore, and on the horizon the darker blue water meets the light blue sky.
The Adirondack chair came out of rural America and according to Wikipedia, "the precursor to today's Adirondack chair was designed by Thomas Lee in 1903."
Mr. Lee happened to be on vacation in the Adirondack Mountains and wanted outdoor chairs for his large family. After building a number of chairs, he showed the plans to a carpenter friend in the nearby town of Westport.
Unbeknownst to him, the friend applied for a patent, received it and began crafting the chairs in earnest. The carpenter spent the next twenty years producing the chair, originally calling it the Westport chair after the nearby town. Later it was called the Adirondack chair after the area where he lived rather than the town. The carpenter, Mr. Bunnell, personally signed each chair he built. Today the original chairs are worth over a thousand dollars each according to reports.

- It's funny, but I find the Adirondack chair to be super comfortable. It just seems to be the right shape for my body. I had a reclining one in the days when I owned a house and I could spend hours sitting on the deck reading. I even put a cup holder into one of the arms to hold the lemonade. Great lens about a great chair.

- Thank you! And, thanks for stopping by. I love your lens about living in an RV - I've wanted to try that for years. Very envious of your lifestyle. The Adirondack chairs don't look comfortable at all to me as I am used to those with cushions. But, once I sat in one or two, they become my new favorite.
