Adobe Flex 3, Flex Builder 3

Adobe has been doing a great job on Flex training. I just noticed today they have began a video series titled Flex in a Week Video Training. The Adobe Flex Cookbook is also highly developed.

Recently I also noticed that some shops sell the older Flex Builder 2 at a heavily reduced price. This can be purchased to get the upgrade to Flex Builder 3 at the upgrade price.

I picked up this PDF from O'Reilly, Flex Early Evaluation: Assessing Flex and Your Project Needs. This has been a good intro to Flex that covers the basics and goes into building a simple app.  This would be a great document for the beginner or a manager.  It's also good for a seasoned developer to be used helping them convince someone why Flex is a good idea.  Plus now there's a great coupon offered by the Linux Reality podcast that will get you a full 40% off your purchase at O'Reilly.  The O'Reilly coupon is LREL40 and it will get you 40% off anything in the store.  That makes the 10 dollar pdf only 6 bucks.

Notes from the Beginning

No need for Windows!

Sweet, when tracking down the tools I'd need to get started, I've found that Adobe has released a native OSX version of their Flex Builder product. So I'll be able to try out their IDE without having to turn on the windows box. Although perhaps as i become more familiar with the nuts and bolts of this, I'll try a Linux install under a windows emulator. Or I wonder if I could get the Flex plugin for Eclipse to work on Linux. Being at the questions stage is fun ... so much to do.

::: Eclipse IDE

Using ColdFusion for the business rules portion of an application and Flex as the user interface is an easy way to go. Adobe has done a good job integrating both.

Adobe Flex Command Line Shell

This isn't a ground shatteringly interesting video but it shows off in a pretty clean and simple way one example of reproducing a desktop like application that has some serious interaction with another computer.
