Adoption Horses
Just like cats and dogs, too many horses are abused, mis-used, abandoned or given up for adoption. Especially in today's economy, horses are being abandoned in areas such as the desert of Arizona just a mile or two from my home. Horses that are rescued may be fully trained and ready to be adopted, or may need some rehabilitation.
Rescue organizations are a great place to look if you are thinking of getting a horse. Perhaps you are simply looking for a companion for a horse you already own who is living in your back yard by himself. Maybe you have enough monthly income to afford the upkeep of a horse, but don't have a lot to spend on the purchase price. Or maybe, you just want the feeling of deep satisfaction that comes from giving a home to an animal in need of one.
Many wonderful organizations throughout the country rescue, rehabilitate and adopt out horses. What follows are recommended rescue facilities located in various parts of the U.S.
All are 501c(3) non-profits, so while you are checking out their websites, please consider giving a tax-deductible donation.
