Adoption SquidAngel

Ranked #10,300 in Parenting & Kids, #374,609 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund, Humane Society of the United States

What started out as a lens on Adoption has turned into much more.

What if you were given a week to be a SquidAngel and bless all the great lenses that deal with a specific topic? Well, that's what happened to me. What a great opportunity to learn more from the views of others.

This is also a way to thank great lensmakers for sharing their experiences because this information helps those who have adopted, those who were adopted and those who are considering adoption. There are pros and cons with foster care but the exchange of information benefits all of us.

Just a bit about why this is important to me. My husband is adopted and we adopted our grandson. There are more unanswered questions that need to be explored. I blessed several lenses when I had the opportunity to be an Angel in December 2010 and they are listed here. I am quite sure that there are more to add to my list.

However, this has turned into much more as I found lenses that dealt with foster care and other related topics. Much of what I found is heartbreaking and yet, needs to be shared. Thank you for visiting.

Adoption is under Parenting and Kids

Many, many, many thanks to GonnaFly for creating this very useful lens

GonnaFly's lens on the topic is excellent. All of them are listed and broken down by category. No more guesses where to look. Bookmark it, favorite it or setup it own lens, this is a tool that everyone needs.

Squidoo has setup two categories for adoption:
Parent and Kids/Children/Adopting a child
Parent and Kids/Babies/Adopting a baby

As I read every lens on adoption, I will suggest that those lenses that may be better suited for the new categories be moved. It's a great chance for us to make the topics better. I can't wait to find great lenses on this very important topic.

Grandparents raising grandchildren

While not all grandparents adopt their grandchildren, if they are raising them, the same problems exist. Two or three of them are mine and no, I didn't bless them. Still, while this is about the lenses that I blessed on adoption, it is also about adoption which is more important.

Foster Care

Love it or Hate it. There is no in-between or is there?

I hate CPS and foster care but I also love CPS and foster care. How can that be? Someday when I am ready I will share my story. There is abuse on both sides. These are just a few of the stories out there.

Angels aren't supposed to have opinions but since I'm only part time...

I think that the priorities might be wrong

Before I am labeled as awful, let me state that I love animals. I have two cats and a shelter dog but there is something very wrong when there are more lenses on adopting pets than children. I understand that adopting a child is not a mainstream process that is embraced by the general population while animals are adopted on a routine basis. It just feels wrong.

Type in adopt in the Squidoo search box, and on the first page all the lenses are about adopting a pet.
Type in adopting and there are two lenses on adopting children and the other eight are on pets.
Type in adoption and it brings up three lenses out of ten on children.

I am now on a mission to track down all the lenses on child/baby adoption and asking the lensmakers to correct the categories so the people who need the information won't get discouraged and search somewhere else.
I know, my halo is slipping.

You certainly were able to gather some wonderful resources on adoption in just a week! I wonder if you got any sleep.

Wow, your chosen subject was much harder than mine..and never fear about that halo slipping...sometimes things need to be said. As to this subject matter of adoption, many people aren't comfortable writing that personal is the only thing I can think of. But you have found some good stories here.

You are doing great work here. This will make it easier for anyone to find these lenses on the topic of adoption. You might check under "orphan" as a keyword too.
