Google Adsense is a great tool to get some extra money. This relatively new money machine is geared for internet publishers, mainly website owners and bloggers. If you publish material on the internet or have a webpage about just about anything, then you can get some Adsense action on your website.

There are a few exceptions. No hate, porn, weapons or gambling websites. Also, certain websites (especially social websites) like MySpace or Facebook allow you enter Adsense code into your pages. Even though you have your own social webpage the rules governing these websites do not allow Adsense.

So exactly what is Adsense? Well, Adsense is a program for web publishers where you can have advertisements on your website. But not just any ads, Adsense advertisements match (as closely as possible) the content on your blog or website. The technology inside the Google kingdom figures out what you are talking about by examing the body of your text. No one from Google is actually looking at your webpages or reading your content. It is the smart technology from Google, where the Google computers (in this instance, they are referred to spiders) search your page and determine the basics of what you are talking about. Often, Google is termed to have "crawled" the pages, with the spiders.

After Google's brain has crawled your website they match the content they read with a database of thousands of advertisements. This match takes place relatively quickly, but can vary by different topics or webpages. Some pages may take only a few seconds for ads to start appearing while another may take days. Leave it to Google, quirky as always. The ads that appear will be on target with whatever you talk about. If you blog about digital cameras, then ads for digital cameras will show up. If your website is all about mountain bikes, then you get ads for mountain bikes. Get the idea? Whether it's travel, hotels, clothing, vitamins, tools, really just about anything will be matched.

Adsense is often referred to as contextual advertising. That is the context of what the publisher is discussing becomes the context for the ad. Yahoo and Microsoft both have programs very similar to Adsense, but they are widely regarded to be inferior versions.

Once the ads appear on the publisher's website, they will take the form of links with a small amount of verbiage attached to them. The headline of the ad is actually a link. Any visitor on the webpage who clicks any of the ads will be taken (via the link) to the advertiser's website. The Adsense publisher will in turn be paid money for the click. The dollar amount of the clicked ad varies. Some Adsense publishers can get over a dollar a click while others can literally earn a penny. The payments per click are very different, and are based on dozens of factors, such as number of visitors to the website, the topic being discussed, how old the webpage is, how the website itself is, and many more. The point is some amount of money will be paid. Google never talks in much detail as to how much it pays per each click or the decisions behind their reasoning.

Google Adsense is a great program for web publishers. Whether you get paid a little or a lot, having the Adsense on your webpages gives you the opportunity to make more money. When you get started you may not make as much cash as you would like, but just keep writing about whatever your topic is. Remember, above all else Google loves great, original content that is informative and relevant to the topic. If you keep writing and posting about your topics, then the traffic and respect will follow with the Adsense advertisements.
