Mural Art Posters Adult Coloring Designs

One of the most interesting (and challenging) adult coloring book hobbies I've explored is coloring in mural art posters made from multiple sheets.These unique adult coloring pages are complex poster sheet murals and sometimes called "Build a Window" or "Window View" coloring pages because they can be arranged in a grouping that resembles window panes.

Adult coloring as a hobby or therapy offers many unique opportunities for artistic expression, relaxation therapy, and frugal decorating. Mural poster coloring sets and block poster adult coloring sheets provide many hours of creative enjoyment that result in a work of art for your office or home.

Come with me on a creative arts quest to find uniquely challenging adult coloring murals and multiple poster coloring crafts. We'll take a look at two free programs you can use to convert any digital image into a set of printable tiled posters: Rasterbator and Blockposters. We'll also use an age-old artists' technique, using projected images to blow up a picture into a mural or large coloring poster.

Mural art posters can be mounted on glass in actual windows or on mirrors to create a stained glass effect in your home. This grouping technique is often used by artists and photographers who create a related set of fine art prints, photographs or paintings mounted or framed separately from several smaller works. Individually and together the panels make a work of art.

The panels of your colored in poster murals can also be framed individually and mounted in a group, or you can connect all the sheets of a coloring mural on the wall and view them as one large united poster or mural. Coloring murals and poster sets for adults can be worked on as a group, or you can tackle the sheets all by yourself, one at a time.

Mural Art - Design Your Own Block Posters

Tiled or Multiple Sheet Printing vs. RIP'd Wide Format Printing

I have a printer that uses special software to enlarge any bitmap graphic into a much larger printable image. The better the original image quality, the nicer the final image. That's basically what;s called Raster Image Processing (RIP, for short), and it's how image enlarging programs works. After an program RIPs your digital file, it breaks the image into a series of rectangles that become the individual PDF images you can print out to make your panel poster artwork for coloring or mounting.

You can use any image you find online if your block poster or mural will be for your own personal use. If you want to sell mural posters you can find public domain images and free commercial use photos at several sites.

Here are several helpful links to programs you can use to create your own panelized posters to use for adult coloring, mural art or home decor.

Until recently it was possible to visit the site and run a mural project online, but I've had problems connecting to the site. The download is free, and CNET is a trusted source for freeware or shareware.

How to Print an Image Using Multiple Sheets of Paper - Tiled Printing
Sending an image to a commercial printer is both expensive and time consuming. Basically you can create a Tiled printer file using your Print. Properties ... Look for "Tile," "Multi-Page," "Tile Large Pages" or similar wording. Note that the "Tile" option may be on the "Page Layout" or "Advanced" tab.

Rasterbator is a free software application you can download and use to create multiple page posters and adult coloring murals. These images were created with program, which is available through CNET.

If you start with a black and white coloring page image as the original digital graphic you can end up creating a coloring page mural poster composed of many separate panels. How cool is that? The more detail in your image the more areas you'll have to color in on your poster sections.

I draw coloring pages for adults and children

I've created a few murals in my artistic career, including painted murals that were done free hand, murals drawn with the help of an art projector and murals created from blocks or panels. Making adult coloring murals and posters is one of my passions. I have a large format printer that can print a 48-inch wide canvas, but it's pretty tricky to handle that big mural after it's printed.

    I never thought of doing this but it is a great idea. Makes me want to adopt a wall to color. I did a super graphic in my office back in the 70's that flowed up and down the walls and ceilings. Using a stenciled image would have been cool too.

    My daughter and I made murals by projecting line art onto the walls and painting by hand when she was a teenager. Local artists have been making canvas mural panels colored in by children, then mounting them on city walls.

    Very interesting. I have done a few (very amateur) murals on my kids bedroom walls but it would probably be a whole lot easier to use a projector. I'll have to keep that in mind if we decide to do something different in their room.
