When choosing the perfect pirate costume, there are a few things to consider before you make your purchase.First, you'll have to decide what kind of pirate you want to be. Do you want an authentic look, the look of a character from a movie such as the Pirates of the Caribbean, or do you just want to be a pirate, but not a famous one. Do you want the look of a pirate ship captain, or would you prefer the look of a pirate ship deck hand. If you prefer the Jack Sparrow look, you'll need to get the braided wig, the pirate hat and all the rest of Jack's outfit such as saber and jewelry.
Often your pirate costume can be purchased as a complete outfit. Buying a ready made costume can save a lot of shopping time, and can sometimes be less expensive in the long run.

Another option, is to rent a costume. Most rental stores will carry pirate costumes and accessories because they are so popular, and often they are a much better quality of costume than what you can buy ready made off the rack. Usually the costumes will be designed to look just like Captain Hook, Captain Morgan or the more recent Captain Jack Sparrow. Renting won't save you any money though. The fact is it will usually cost more than buying a costume or creating your own.
When putting the costume together, remember to pay close attention to every detail of the costume by adding all the right accessories. This will really make the costume stand out and look more authentic. Adding an eyepatch, an earring, a sword or even a musket will add to the authenticity of the pirate costume. Remember to wear a tri-cornered hat over a bandanna or a head scarf alone. Adding a stuffed (or real) parrot to your shoulder is a really nice touch to complete the finished look. This long, hooded cloak is made from a black poly-velvet fabric and entirely lined with black satin, including the hood. It has shaped shoulders and closes in front with a long tie made from the same black poly-velvet fabric as the body of the cloak. The cloak lining is fully attached along the front seams and at the bottom hem and neckline. Measurements: The cloak measures appx. 62" long from the center back neck to the bottom of the cloak, and over 183" around the circumference of the bottom hem (that's more than 15 feet!). The gently-sloping (not pointed) hood is about 14.5" deep at its deepest point and about 20" high when lifted straight off the shoulders to its peak. They say the cloak will fit a small up to a 4x.
