There Are Great Advantages for a Business That Is PCI Certified

There are many companies around that have now realized the importance of being PCI certified, and taken the steps needed to do so. But here is something to think about; If you like to shop online, it's important that you look for websites that are PCI certified if you plan to enter any personal information such as credit card numbers, etc. So, if you are an online business and still have not taken those important steps to becoming PCI certified, it is important that you do so as soon as possible. There are many advantages for you as a PCI certified business owner.

One o f the biggest advantages of being a PCI certified business, is that you are defending your website from possible security threats. A main element of PCI certification entails your business performing daily or quarterly PCI scans (also known as vulnerability scans). These scans are performed by an Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV). It is a way for checking your website for vulnerabilities or threats that may possibly cause your customer's personal and private information to be taken by online thieves.

Another advantage of being PCI certified is that not only are you protecting your website, you are protecting cardholder information. As mentioned above, the scans will present information to you as a website owner about any threats to your security system. You will then know exactly what needs to be done to correct these issues so that the cardholder's information is safe and secure. Which brings us to another advantage; you will increase your customer's trust, which in return means more sales for you! Customers that know you are PCI certified will feel that they can trust your site over others. They know that their information is safe and will continue to use your site. They, hopefully, will even spread the word to friends and family about how trustworthy your website is, and that means more business.
One of the most important advantage of being a PCI certifed website, is that you will avoid consequences that you would face if you aren't. If you are a business that processes more than 20,000 card transactions per year, you are required to meet the PCI Data Security Standards, which consist of 12 major requirements, and also PCI scanning. If you choose not to, you could risk having to pay major fines, or not being able to handle credit card data on your website at all.

So, what do you have to lose! The time and money that you put into becoming PCI certified is small compared to the big advantages that come with it. If you have not done so yet, look into PCI compliance and make sure that you are PCI certified.
