Why Affiliate Marketing?

Being in the Affiliate Marketing business is, in my opinion, the best place to begin a career on the internet. There is no product creation, no inventory to store or invest in, and no product to ship. You can get started with very little or even no money. You really don't even have to have a web site when you first start out! In this article I will explain to you the Advantages of Affiliate Marketing and the concepts behind it.

I'll first start by saying that no matter what business you start online, you are going to have to market it. So, why not most of the other stuff and concentrate on marketing other peoples products and services. You can just send the people to their websites and get paid commissions between 20% and even 100%. You don't even have to do any hard selling....just let their landing page do it for you!

Your Area(s) Of Expertise

Here's where you can decide what business you want to be in. And I do mean ANY business. Almost any company, no matter how big or small, who does business on the Internet has an Affiliate Program. I would suggest picking something you already know a little something about for your first campaign. And if you don't like it....you can change it down the road. Try to do that with a brick and mortar business!

So, how does all this work? Well, first off you need to decide what industry you would like to start with. Then pick a niche in that industry. For example, say you are really into music....that can be the industry. Now, you have to choose a niche. Let's say "playing guitar" for example. Now, break your niche down, because "playing guitar is way too broad. There are well over 6.5 million optimized search results in Google for that phrase; way too much competition for even an expert marketer. This should get very specific to eliminate competition and weed out people who really aren't interested in buying the product or service you are promoting. For instance, "learn to play rock guitar" is a much more realistic sub-niche to focus on. Not only is there less competition, but your traffic will be more targeted.

Affiliate Programs

Once you choose a niche, you need to find a product or service in that niche to sell and join their affiliate program. Affiliate programs should always be free to join! If not, I wouldn't bother. I also don't bother with an affiliate program if they pay less than 50% commissions. There are a couple ways to find a program. You can type in "your niche" + "affiliate program" into Google (without the quotes of course). Or, you can sign up for an Affiliate Network. The most popular is Clickbank.com. There are a number of others though including Commission Junction and PayDotCom.
When you sign up for an affiliate program they will give you a special link with a tracking code called an affiliate link. It will look something like this: http://www.xproduct.com/?17343 or http://www.xproduct.com/yourusername
That is how they know that the sales are coming from you.

What do you think? Some people would rather have the convenience of an Affiliate Network like Clickbank. Others would rather work with Stand-Alone Affiliate Programs.
If you choose Affiliate Networks, which one is your favorite and why? Feel free to include a link back to your site or one of your lenses.

What's Your Preference: Affiliate Networks or Stand-Alone Programs?

Stand Alone Affiliate Programs

besido says:

Like I said, in the beginning I would suggest using an Affiliate Network, but check them both out if your comfortable enough. It can't hurt. Like I said...their free to join. I, however do prefer Stand-Alone Programs for the simple fact that they usually seem to provide better marketing tools.

Promote Your Product

Then of course, you need to get the word out about the product you are promoting using your affiliate link. This can be done in many ways. First you need to decide whether you are going to use paid or free techniques. Paid techniques mainly include bidding on "keywords" in search engines that are related to your product. This is usually referred to PPC or Pay-Per-Click because, you will only be charged when someone clicks on your ad, but if you don't know what you're doing, it can be very costly. With a little research however, it is definitely the fastest way to profit. Free techniques include blogging, article marketing, forum marketing and social networking.

This is just the basic concept and advantages of affiliate marketing. If it sounds like something you would like to pursue, I would definitely recommend doing some real research before diving in. I promise you though; it will be well worth your time if it's something you'd enjoy. You can make between $100 a day in you spare time up to $10,000 a month working full time from the comfort of your own home. Some "Super Affiliate" Gurus are making even $10,000 a day!

While the concept is very simple, nothing worth doing is easy. It will take some hard work and dedication on your part, but if you really want it, you too can indulge in the Advantages of Affiliate Marketing.

You've probably heard before a bunch of hype about how much money you can make with affiliate programs. Maybe you've even set up a site yourself, only to find that after buying the domain name, a few bucks a month in hosting, software or a web designer to design your site, etc., that the piddly affi
