Adventure Travel Gift Guide

Over the years, I have taken several vacations that involved hiking, cycling, camping or heading up into the mountains for a day trip. Being properly prepared is key to successful day or multi-day excursions, regardless of what type of outdoor activities you plan on doing. At the very least, you should always have a medical first aid kit in your day pack as well as drinking water and calorie-rich food such as a few energy bars or perhaps some dried fruit. Other good ideas for quick, healthy snacks are succulent citrus fruit, a few bananas and a small portion of nuts, such as cashews, brazil nuts or walnuts.

You also need to protect your camera, important documentation, maps, and other valuable items from the elements by placing them in waterproof cases. You may want to consider a waterproof camera. Travelers who plan on taking in a lot of beach time or doing a lot of camping should also consider accessory cases that are both water and sandproof.

Remember - planning ahead is key to a successful excursion!

Adventure travelers who will be spending time in remote areas need to be prepared for medical emergencies. A small medical kit is usually sufficient for general travel. Select the right survival/medical kit for yourself or the traveler in your life.
