Tell Your First Sale Story

I remember my first sale... a whopping $7.00! But you woulda thought I hit the lottery ;)

It was a defining moment for me, tho... If I could make $7.00, then I could make anything I put my mind to.

Want to share the story of your first sale and what it meant to you? I'd love to hear it!

(please, no affiliate links or self-promotional links...thank you)

After tooling around with IM and PPC, I gave up. The math wasn't working for me - $2000 for PPC and totaling $500 in sales. I'm not a genius, but that's not good! Anyway, I found your program and had my first sale in just a couple of weeks! And it didn't cost me anything other than time! I can't tell you how that made me feel!

Now it seems like everything is coming together and it feels awesome!

I got lucky with adwords and made a $55 sale with my first $5 spent! Unfortunately I got carried away and spent close to $50 more but didn't make any more sales. Sad story but I learned to stay away from adwords unless you've got the right experience/techniques to do it right. And I also had a $100 Google coupon so it wasn't from my own pocket :D

I just got my first Amazon affiliate based on following the methods outlined in your One Week Marketing program and it wasn't even on a high ranking Squidoo lens nor did it have tons of traffic. I had given up on it and just put in on the backburner. Letting lenses simmer as you recommend really does work.

4. How Much Do You Need?

I remember when I was learning affiliate marketing that I would look at the income screenshots of the "gurus" and think...

"If I could only make a percentage of that, I could pay my bills and not have to get a 'real' job".

What is that amount for you?

This was a fun poll. It made me think about my overall goals a little more. Wish I could do AFF marketing full time, but its slowly building into a full time income.

I spent the last 11 months being "coached" by a mentor only to be uncerimoniously dumped. Then I discovered that my opt-in give away is no longer linked to my AWeber account and my list is gone! I only had just under 1500 subscribers, now I have none. I have been writing articles to generate traffic and have tried PPC with AdWords that cost me over $1600 with zero sales. What I need is to generate a steady flow of low/no cost targeted traffic. That is why I am exploring Squidoo!

Its hard keeping up with school and writing articles, doing research, building links, etc.. Kind of leads into lack of motivation as well. Just gotta keep going though

I'm kinda torn. On the one hand, supporting myself with the content I publish online sounds like a worthy goal.

On the other hand, I publish content because I want to publish content. Having to tailor it to affiliate marketing and shill products for people changes what I can write about. That's why I've never really gotten into One Week Marketing or been a steady follower of yours -- I'm still only getting the occasional Amazon or AllPoster sale and otherwise not jumping on the Affiliate Marketing bandwagon.
Yet I know I am capable of being successful at it, as I've ridden the online wave with relative ease since 1989... this is my home, and I understand a lot about how the net works and connects people... and what its limitations are. Hrm.

Using your imagery of an electronic bank, I have ups and downs. There's a great hurrah with an unexpected sale or when we get the monthly payout but time seems to drag between setting up a lens and having it actually pay off. It's tough to keep the faith but I know when I persevere I always end up doing well. It's slogging through that's hard.

10. Problems With the 8 Steps

To me, the basic affiliate marketing sales process breaks down into 8 steps. While product first/market first is a "chicken or the egg" type question, for this poll we will start with finding the product you want to sell and then take it from there.

Anything You'd Like To Add?

Feel free to speak openly about affiliate marketing... it could not only help me learn how to teach better, you could help others who are in the same situation as yourself.

It's interesting that so many surveyed want to quit their current job. Good to know that the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well!

I realize this article is targeted at affiliates. However, I am a merchant and we are trying to recruit high quality affiliates. We offer an aggressive commission rate and have a high quality product that our customers really like.

Any advice/suggestions how we can recruit high quality affiliates?

Excellent lens! 5 stars! My concern now has been disclosure. I do have a disclosure policy posted. I might suggest adding nofollow attributes to affiliate links to prevent being dinged by Google. Happened to me before I learned the hard way.

Thanks for all your constant support Jennifer through your e-mails and blog posts. Your One Week Marketing program is a great system and for any non-believers, it's worth the modest investment. In just one month I was able to recoup my investment and greatly improvement my search engine optimization techniques thanks to PotPieGirl
