Landing Page Template Design Guide For Affiliate Marketers

So what is a landing page and why should I use one? Well a landing page is the web site or page your visitors land on after clicking on an advertisement, link, or any method you used to generate that traffic. We affiliate marketers use such pages to gain subscribers to our mailing list, display ads, demonstrate or review products we promote. We want to convert this web traffic to sales. You can look at a landing page as being your own sales associate assisting customers. The content of the landing page should be highly related to the advertisements use to bring traffic and give more information about the product or service we are promoting.

First off, you can gain subscribers to your list. Some may say this should be your main focus. I myself do place an opt-in form on the side bar of every page I do promote, but I'm looking to make sales on the front end also. If you promote directly to the merchant page you will not have a chance to gain opt-in subscribers to send repeat offers to for repeat business.

Landing pages increase conversions rate. Look at it like this way. Many times people like to research about a product or service they are interested in purchasing. They may visit the merchant page then go back to the search engine. They search using terms like Product Name review, Product Name scam , does Product Name really work, etc... By having a landing page your ahead of the game. Your job as an marketer is to have content that answers your prospect questions. You will have to do some market research to find out what people want to know about the product or service you are promoting. Hypothetically visitors arrive to landing page and get well informed, then return to the merchant page through your link and purchase.

I'm sure you like a good deal and so does everyone else. Buyers may check out a few online shops looking for the best deal on a product. On the landing page you can list the prices of products from several merchants showing the best deals or provide coupons or rebates. Some online merchants offer free shipping. This alone maybe the deal breaking.

Your visitors may want to compare similar products. On your landing page you can have comparison charts and reviews for several similar products showing the pros and cons for each.

And finally you could benefit from search engine traffic using a landing page. If your just linking directly to the merchants page, your only helping to boost the merchants page in the search engine. Who likes building landing pages by hand? If you said me, then I guess you are just weird. Why would you build landing pages by hand when you could automate the process using software?

You can find all kinds of web design tools for building websites, but most you need a college degree master, Not to mention they are expensive and as you know most web developer tools are not suited well for Internet Marketers.

Relevancy: Make sure your headline is relevant from where the traffic is coming from. Example: If someone is searching for diet tips. You should have diet tips clearly in the headline to reduce your bounce rate.

Call To Action: Make sure you have several call to action statements throughout the landing page. Example Click Here Now, Buy Now. Sign Up here.

Links Above The Fold: This means your visitor shouldn't have to scroll down the page to click through to the merchant page. When your visitor clicks on your landing page links to the merchant page should be viewable.

Opt Box: Whenever possible have an optin subscription box for your newsletter or free report. Enticed your visitors by offering a free report of some kind that complements the product you are promoting. Once you get them on your list you can send repeat offers to your contacts.

Your Goal: Your goal with your landing page is to get other people to click through or opt into your newsletter. You want to get at least 50% if your visitors to click through to your merchants page or optin to your newsletter list. Contently tweak, modify, and split test your landing page to get better performance out of it?

Does the landing page make the sale? Many marketers waste time building fantastic looking landing pages. Which is ok, but honestly does how the landing page look really matter? I would say yes to some extent but in the end it all comes down to the content.

When I break into a new niche, I have no problem using an ugly landing page. I don't waste time building the perfect landing page until I find out if the niche is profitable. Some of my best conversions come from really ugly landing pages. I don't have time to waste so I use Site Rubix to quickly build decent looking landing pages.

I don't beat myself up how my pages look because I know it all comes down to the content in combination with the keywords selected to market the product.

So what keywords convert?

That is the million dollar question. If your not tracking you need to be. What if every time you had a sale you knew the exact keyword that generated the sale? I have that luxury. So now you know the benefits of having a landing page and put one up. Now were going to talk about increasing conversion rates of a landing page. I actually have landing pages that convert 1:7 hits. It is not that hard to do. Its all in the marketing research. I'm going to explain some of this below.

Firstly I'm going to discuss keywords and buying cycle of visitors. Many affiliates get low conversions on their landing pages because they are targeting keywords to early in the buying cycle. This can be ok if your ranked high in the search engine, but if your marketing with ppc you could blow through your budget really quickly and get few sales in the process. To better explain this I'll give some examples If I were promoting a diet product.

Browse Keywords

• Diet
• Diet Plan
• Diet Pills

These keywords above are browse keywords. People searching using the keywords may purchase a diet product at sometime, but they are not sure what diets products are available, what kind of diet product they should use, or could just be searching for free information. Affiliate marketers should not target browse keywords. They may have less competition and cost less, but you will end up paying more due to heavy non-converting traffic. Remember, the more traffic you get isn't always better if the traffic isn't converting.

Compare Keywords

• Best Diet Programs
• Diet Programs Review
• Diet Pill Comparison

These keywords are compare keywords. Buyers are searching with these keywords, but they want to compare diet programs and select the best ones for them. On your landing page you could review or compare multiple diet programs. These keywords are good to test, but are not always profitable. They can include product brands as well as product names in the searched phrase.

Buy Keywords

• Buy Product Name
• Purchase Product Name
• Product Name Sale

These types of keywords are buy keywords. You can increase your landing page conversion rate targeting these types of keywords. The people searching with these keywords are already settled in on what product they want to purchase, they are just looking for the right website with the best deal. Product brand names and model numbers are usually included in the search phrase.

Buy keyword phrases may include.

• Buy
• Purchase
• Find
• Get
• Sale
• Deal
• Free Shipping

If the products you are promoting can only be purchases exclusively from one website, people may search for product name review, product name scam, product name testimonials. These are people who would like to see what other people are saying about the product before they decide to purchase. People don't like to get ripped off either or make a bad purchasing decision, so often they search for the product name with scam next to it. These keywords are good keywords that convert well if the content of your landing page answers your visitors questions and the product is of high product. In order to create content that converts well with these keywords, you'll have to find out what people want to know about the product. Purchasing the product yourself and providing an unbiased review is a good idea also.

If you want to increase your landing page conversion rate, only target keywords further on in the buying cycle. I mainly focus on buy keywords or product review keywords and convert well doing so.

Make sure your headline is relevant to the advertisements used to bring traffic to your page. If your advertisement says Great Deals On Dell Laptops, so should your landing page headline. Your headline should be an attention grabber to let your visitors know they've arrived at the right page. Your web visitors decide rather to stay at your websites between 5 to 10 seconds after arriving, so make sure you get your headline right.

Your landing page should be easy to use and well organized. Your visitors should have no problem navigating your page and the content should be easy on the eyes. If your landing page is confusing your visitors will not stay long.

Your page should load quickly. There is no need to have bulky graphics and images. Your website should load in 5 to 10 seconds. If it takes to long, your visitors will leave before your landing page is fully loaded.

Have relevant images to the industry you are promoting as well as images of the products. You could use image captions to describe more about the product in the image. If you have a general website, you'll want do this for every category you are promoting. Doing this can increase conversion rates of you landing page.

If your using hundreds of keywords to promote a product or service, you should have several landing pages tailored to each ad group. This includes relevant images as well has headlines. Now you don't have to have hundreds of landing pages promoting the same product. You want to break your keywords down into groups of common keywords and build landing around each group. This very important if you are using ppc to promote your landing page.
