How to Make a Living as an Affiliate Marketer

Affiliate marketing is an increasingly lucrative way of making a living online. Many people find it a more satisfying way of earning money than a 9-5 job working for somebody else. Indeed, you can work on your own schedule, where and how you are comfortable to work, and maintain a nice lifestyle at that with only so much effort involved.

Sounds tempting, doesn't it? It does of course, but at the same time there are thousands of people who have tried their hand at affiliate marketing only to quit later without much success. If you do not want to repeat their failure read on.

I have created this lens to give a few quick tips to those who want to start their own online affiliate business. Hopefully my tips will help you avoid mistakes most beginner affiliates make. These tips are pretty basic, if you want soem in-depth reading about ins and outs of an affiliate business online you are welcome to read my affiliate blog where I write about my own experience as an affiliate marketer and provide affiliate tips and reviews of affiliate programs.

Making Money as an Affiliate Marketer

Quick Tips

Here are a few tips that you need to keep in mind when starting your new affiliate business:

- Build your own site - while some affiliate programs do not require you to do this, I find that it works better than just driving traffic to your affiliate link and gives you more control

- Do not try to cover every possible affiliate program that exists out there - select a few that are reliable and start with them, concentrating on promoting their products and achieving results (making sales) - you can expand your efforts later on if you feel you need to

- Drive very targeted traffic to your offers - the more targeted your traffic is, the less effort it will take to make each sale and the more sales you will get - resulting in bigger commissions for you

- Study the market you're working in - you need to know your products to promote them successfully

- Do not use email spam - most affiliate programs do not like it and will disable your account for it

- Do not copy the content off the product site that you are promoting - this will undermine your credibility and can also get your site in trouble with Google. Create your own relevant content.

- Collect and analyze your statistics - they will help you identify ways to make your site work better. Many good affiliate programs collect these statistics for you and you can get reports about your traffic, referrals and sales - but this is not enough as the affiliate program can only collect the stats pertaining to its own sites. You also need your site's stats - so collect these as well.

- Know and understand the potential customers you are catering to - this will help you find the right approach and again, will result in more sales.
