Affiliate marketing in and of itself is not a difficult concept to grasp, but making it work is another story. As an affiliate your job is easy enough, all you have to do is connect people looking to buy something with the person or company that's selling it.

Every time the buyer and seller complete a transaction you get a piece of the action in the form of a commission. Pretty simple right?

In a perfect world, if this scenario went smoothly everytime there would be a lot less concern about scams and rehashed material, but such is not the case and in the real world where competition is fierce, making this equation work takes a little more effort than you may be ready to put forth.

If you're new to affiliate marketing, you are probably wondering what you need to do get going making some money. When I first got started as an affiliate I actually did the right thing and got involved with "one"program.

This one program was a ready made website complete with hosting and programs to promote and it was going good until...

I got wind of all the other products and programs that claimed to do things bigger, better and faster. As a result of allowing myself to be derailed by all the distractions, my success began to decline.

If you are an experienced marketer than you well know that there is no way to achieve success by trying to promote every last product that you can get your eyes on. All it does it dilute your effectiveness, prolong the learning curve and kill your determination to succeed.

And to add insult to injury, you're wallet will take a beating. So did you get the first lesson?

Stick To One Program

Before you get started promoting anything, the best thing you can do is map out a strategy. Going back to when I first got started with all this stuff, the program I chose to invest my time in, initially provided a few different strategies, all I had to do was pick "one".

There goes that "one" word again. Well initially I did and things were going pretty good, until I decided to start venturing out into the carnival of strategies that you'll find bombarding your inbox everyday.

Now here's where it gets interesting, because you will hear "guru's" say that you should not rely on one method for traffic and you shouldn't rely on just one money making strategy, but the truth is, when you're new, all you need is one.

Do you like juggling? Ever watch someone when they are trying to learn how to juggle? Well that's how newbies look, myself included when I first got started. It's not fun and it's down right irritating. So did you catch the second lesson?

Pick One Strategy To Start With And Stick To It For At Least 30-60 Days

So getting back to this horribly overlooked necessity that dooms many aspiring affiliates before they ever had a chance. You may have heard that in order to make the real money online that you read about on some of those glitzy salesletters, you need to create your own products. Don't believe the hype.

There are some very successful affiliates online making some crazy money selling other people's stuff day in and day out. The question is: how do they do it?

Well, the same way a product creator would do market research in order to find out what people want to buy, it's the same for marketing products as an affiliate.

Often times the big trap is that you buy into the pitch on the salesletter, get your affiliate link and go running off with your hair on fire telling people to buy this "new thing" without even finding out if there's a real market for the product.

An easy way to find out if there's any possibility of making money with the product is to go into the forums for the market your in and see what people are saying about it. That is where you'll find out what people are looking for and whether they are impressed or not with the product you're thinking about promoting.

It's also important to find out how people feel about the product creator. Chances are if there were problems in the past, it may be a little tougher to move it as an affiliate.

Market research for promoting affiliate products is just as important for you as it is for the person who created it.

Tedious? Yes.

You'll get all the same information you were looking for when you did it manually and more. It costs a few bucks, but it can save you a truckload of time, which will make you more cash faster.
