A friend of mine recently asked me to mentor her into the affiliate marketing world, so I'm creating this page in order to explain to her (as well as anyone who might stumble upon it) the easy and FREE steps necessary to get started as an affiliate marketer.
First and foremost I'd like to point out that it is simply not necessary to spend even a dime in order to get started as an affiliate marketer.
Second, just about anyone can become an affiliate marketer, regardless of their background, education or race. I'm a testimony to that because when I started out with affiliate marketing over a year ago, I had NO idea what it was all about.
However you do need to possess one quality, and that is to be PERSISTENT.
There is no quick way to get rich online, and you need to constantly work at it in order to succeed and make money online. So if you are not committed and believe that you will become rich overnight, then you might as well stop reading this page right now.
Having made those few points clear, let's get down to the fun part!

What is affiliate marketing anyway!!???
Affiliate marketing is the concept of revenue sharing, or in other words, paying commission to affiliates (a commercial entity with a relationship with a peer or a larger entity) for referred business.Affiliate marketing (using one site to drive traffic to another) is a form of online marketing.
To put it in layman's terms:
Say Tom has a product or service he wants to sell, but has no way of reaching lots of potential customers. So he joins an affiliate network to start selling his creation. Then you come in as an affiliate and join the same network. You browse around and Tom's product catches your eye. So you decide you want to promote Tom's product because 1) you see some value in it (it solves someone's problem) 2) because he pays you a good commission. You then begin your marketing efforts and everytime a customer buys Tom's product through your link you make a commission.

Basic Starter Kit
Here's the bottom basics you will need to get started as a beginner affiliate marketer:
1. an account with PayPal
2. an account with ClickBank
3. an account with Squidoo
4. learn minimal HTML (don't sigh before you read further!)
Although not entirely necessary for your starter kit, it is nevertheless a good idea to open accounts with the following 2 websites (and I'll explain why later):

6. Wealthy Affiliate

2. an account with ClickBank

ClickBank is the internet's largest digital affiliate network, and this is where our friend Tom would come to sell his digital product or service.

3. Squidoo
Why squidoo?According to Wikipedia "Squidoo is a website designed to make it easy for anyone, for free, to set up a single page (called a "lens" in squidoo terms) on a topic he or she knows or cares a lot about"
So this is exactly what you need in order to start promoting the affiliate products of your choice, a place where you can create web pages (as many as you want), for free, about any subject.
Another great thing about Squidoo is that advertising revenue is shared with the content creators (you), and some of it is given to charity. In other words, when you make a lens (web page), you earn royalties based on the number of views your pages get.
In fact, you're making me some money right now just by viewing this page!
Squidoo is also very easy to use and once you get the hang of it can be quite addictive! (you have been warned!!)
4. Basic HTML
No need to get discouraged! You don't need to take courses on computer language (HTML) nor do you need to know programming. You can leave that to the computer geeks of the world. But I won't lie to you, it helps a lot if you know at least some HTML in order to create nice looking links that will attract people to clicking them.Let's face it, would you rather click on something suspicious looking like this:

or would you feel safer clicking on a neater link that looked like this:

You'd probably be more inclined to clicking the latter.
So, click here and learn just a few basic HTML "tricks". I promise you, it won't take you long till you've mastered creating simple, neat looking links!

5. Associated Content
"Associated Content (AC) is an online publisher and distributor of user generated content. Associated Content enables anyone with Internet access to publish their content on any topic and then distributes that content through its website and content partners"So why is it a good idea to sign up with Associated Content?
For one, if you enjoy writing original content and are fairly good at it, AC will pay you upfront money (deposited into your PayPal account) for your article, on top of giving you royalties based on the number of views your content gets.
Besides at AC you are allowed to incorporate a few affiliate links into your text, thereby increasing your sales potential.
6. Wealthy Affiliate
As you move along and advance in the affiliate marketing world you will realize that there are many other ways of making money online. So it is a good idea that if you are truly serious about making affiliate marketing your new career, that you get training from a place which I consider THE best for in-depth learning about affiliate marketing.Wealthy Affiliate is not a FREE site.
Wealthy Affiliate is a paid membership site, and in my opinion, worth every penny.
