Free Traffic Isn't Your Problem! Targeting Is!
Traffic itself isn't hard to come by. You could pay a small fortune and buy the attention of your prospects. But most affiliates don't have that kind of start-up cash. They're starting small and working up to paid traffic.
You want free traffic tips that are perfect for affiliates who enjoy a hands-off role in the Internet marketing scene. Free traffic isn't too hard to muster up, either. But free targeted traffic is a whole different story!
We're going to explore a couple of ways you, as a 'net savvy affiliate marketer, can generate an endless stream of targeted traffic to your various affiliate offers - regardless of what niche you're zeroing in on.
Free Affiliate Traffic Tip #1:
Article Marketing Money Links
Here's how it works:
There is a hefty supply of article directories online who accept your submissions free of charge. They take your content, host it on their site, and allow publishers to pick and up reproduce your work on their own domain - as long as they keep your Bio Box intact.
As an affiliate marketer, your Bio Box is important because it's where you can add a link to your own blog or website. You won't be selling directly from your articles, but rather funneling free, targeted traffic through to your own domain where you can present your affiliate links.
Most article directories, like Ezine Articles, won't accept affiliate links right in the body of the article. But some do - like GoArticles.com!
If you're worried that you're not a writer, then you might consider buying some Private Label Rights products and getting a starting point for your ideas. With PLR, you can make slight alterations and post them in directories with your name on them. Some directories are picky about this (like EZA), but others are more lenient.Or, if you have a few dollars to get started, you might consider going to a freelancing source like Elance and having some ghostwriters develop some professional articles for you that you own the rights to be able to use in your article marketing efforts.

Free Affiliate Traffic Tip #2:
Blog for Big Bucks!
Both of those are false.
Google loves blogs - it's usually valuable content presented to and by real people. Your niche blog could wind up ranking higher in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) than the product owner's own site, and he wont mind - because your affiliate links will pull in more money for him!
You can set up a free blog (more than one if you want) on WordPress.com or Blogger.com. The wizards walk you right through the simple, short process. You don't have to get fancy. If you want to - by all means, upload a custom-built template to spice up your layout, but it's not a necessity.Your content doesn't have to be long. A simple 200-word post each day can be enough to feed the search engine spiders' insatiable appetite for keyword-relevant content. You can take some private label rights content, break it up, and post it to your blog. You can write them from scratch, or have a ghostwriter develop plenty of posts for you to use over time.
You have multiple selling opportunities in your free blog. Your content can include text links, of course. But you can also post banner ads and text ads in between the posts in the ad space.
Many bloggers just use AdSense, but it's just as easy to use something from the product owner's affiliate toolbox instead so that your converting traffic results in a higher commission. You also have the sidebar where you can strategically place a "recommends" list using your affiliate links. Or, you can create multiple pages that review the products you're promoting.
You can set up your blog to just review products or give tips to your audience. You can even have an opt-in box right on your blog to begin building a list of followers that you can market to over the coming months and years!

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate Marketing is an Internet-based marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts. It is an application of crowdsourcing.
The Affiliate Marketing industry has four core players at its heart: the Merchant (also known informally as 'Retailer' or 'Brand'), the Network, the Publisher (also known informally as 'the Affiliate') and the Customer. The market has grown sufficiently in complexity to warrant a secondary tier of players, including Affiliate Management Agencies, Super-Affiliates and Specialized Third Parties vendors.
Affiliate marketing overlaps with other Internet marketing methods to some degree, because affiliates often use regular advertising methods. Those methods include organic search engine optimization, paid search engine marketing, e-mail marketing, and in some sense display advertising. On the other hand, affiliates sometimes use less orthodox techniques, such as publishing reviews of products or services offered by a partner.
Affiliate marketing?using one website to drive traffic to another?is a form of online marketing, which is frequently overlooked by advertisers. While search engines, e-mail, and website syndication capture much of the attention of online retailers, affiliate marketing carries a much lower profile. Still, affiliates continue to play a significant role in e-retailers' marketing strategies.Guide to E-Commerce Technology, 2007-08 Edition by Internet Retailer
