Affiliate Marketing - is it worth the trouble?

Ranked #1,585 in Internet, #99,301 overall

Affiliate Marketing - what????

What is Affiliate Marketing? Does it work? How does it work?  I had these questions and many more, when I first started looking into developing my online business.  Having completed my MBA (Internet Marketing) in 2000, I thought I had a reasonable grounding in IM to try my hand at earning some extra dollars.

This Lens is dedicated to sharing my experiences with others, so they can learn without (hopefully) making the mistakes I made (and will still make....)

Important!

What Every Affiliate Marketer Should Know

Build Your List! The Money Really Is In the List

To Be A Great Affiliate Marketer.....

Build Your List

Affiliate Marketing can be so much more than just promoting someone elses product. It has taken nearly 12 months to work this, despite having read all of the wonderful material that is around.

When you market someone elses product, all the owner of the product wants is for you to promote their product and sell it.

On the other hand, as an affiliate marketer, we are generally just focussed on earning some money.

However, you should be taking a bigger view of the whole picture. When you start your online marketing career, you really should be building your business with the view that eventually you will want to promote your own product sometime in the future.... or that you may find another affiliate product within the same niche that you want to sell. Wouldn't it be great to have a list of people who have already expressed interest in that niche?

So, the message that I want you to take NOW (and remember it took me 12 months to get it) is, BUILD YOUR LIST!

Sure, the product owner will want to build their list too - but that shouldn't mean that you can't - or won't!

So what do you do? Firstly learn to build Landing pages or Squeeze Pages. (More on that in a later module).

So what is a landing page? Simply, instead of directing your prospect to the Sales Page immediately, direct them to a page that gives a bit of information about the product and then asks for their Name and Email address. In return for their user name and email address, you are going to GIVE them something of value.

What is something of value? You may offer a hints and tips newsletter, you may offer a free EBook or similar.

Once you have their name and email address, you can then forward them on to the product you are promoting.

So..... what do you do once you have them on your mailing list?

Well, I strongly recommend that you send out approximately 7 or 8 emails over the first 12 to 14 days to remind you prospect that they looked at your affiliate product and encouraging them to visit the affiliate site again.....

After those emails have been sent out, I would then recommend that you send out a new offer to that list once a week (maybe a fortnight) with a similar affilaite offer. That way your list doesn't go cold and will still remember you....

By doing this for each product you promote, you will be developing a "warm" niche focussed list that you can either promote other niche affiliate products to, or your own products......

Guerrilla Balance Sheet

Now here is a great Affiliate Marketing opportunity, to prove how effective Affiliate Marketing can be. FeBeNe (Front End, Back End, Never Ending profits).

Centered around the Guerrilla Balance Sheet - another great Guerrilla Marketting technique, this opportunity shows how you can make a cost center, a profit center.

A cost center is anything that is money that leaves your business with no direct recompense. Don't get me wrong - you need to spend money to make money. The idea however, of the Guerrilla Balance Sheet, is how to make things that cost money - make you money!

I'm not going to give the guts of the report away - but check out how Vegas Businesses have changed their way of thinking.

The Guerrilla Balance Sheet makes you think "out of the box" about your business. How can what your spending become a direct profit center? The Guerrilla Balance Sheet helps you transmute your thinking.

The Guerrilla Balance Sheet is co-authored by Jay Conrad Levinson - of Guerilla Marketing fame.
