When you become an affiliate, you receive these ugly looking links they give you to use to promote their product. For example, if you are promoting a clickbank product. You get a link that looks like this:

http://yourclickbankid.productname.hop.clickbank.net

Not a very appealing link to click on and see what product you are trying to sell. It also shows your clickbank id. Anyone can just switch your id with their own clickbank id and get credit for the sale and steal your commissions. That alone should tell you that cloaking your links is a good idea.

There are a number of software products that will cloak your links for you to increase your sales and protect you from having your commissions stolen.
