African Grey Parrots
This web page is dedicated to the wonderful African grey parrots. Here you will learn information about caring for your parrot and the diet you should be feeding it as well as parrot breeding tips and details on selecting the right nesting box for your African grey parrot eggs.
African Grey Parrot Diet Information

An African grey parrot diet should consist of a healthy range of various foods. Nuts, seeds and fruits are the staple diet that will give your African grey parrot all the vitamins and minerals it needs to live on. Leafy greens can also help to make up a balanced diet and ensure your parrot gets all the necessary goodness it needs.
If your grey parrot has recently given birth it's important to make sure you feed it softer foods so that it can digest it easily while it's recovering.
Some people choose to add supplements to their parrots diet to make sure they get the adequate amounts of vitamin A and calcium, which are essential to an African grey parrot diet. Sometimes these supplements can be added to the bird's water too.
If you feed your parrot the correct diet supplements are not needed so refrain from using them if you can.

African Grey Parrot Care Information
African grey parrot care is fairly simple as long as you feed them the correct diet, clean up after them and make sure they get some exercise. They enjoy a big environment with room to move, toys to keep them entertained and lots of attention.Having said that they are not the easiest pets to own due to them being easily stressed. When you first bring them home from the pet store they can get very nervous and may develop behavioural problems.
If you can afford to hire a specialist parrot trainer then it is well worth the investment. This can help them to become more interactive and friendly, which will make them much more enjoyable to own as a pet.

African Grey Parrot Breeding Tips
Before African grey parrot breeding there is one major decsion to make and that is choosing between then two different sub species. The Timneh is small and darker in color and The Congo is larger and can grow up to 30 centimetres long. They Congo are also paler compared to the Timneh and are the more popular of the two African grey parrot species.
The Conga are supposedly the more intelligent but there is no proof to confirm this. The Timneh's are also typically more challenging to breed so keep this in mind.
Another obvious but important part of breeding is accurately determining the parrot's sex. The male African grey normally has a bigger beak but it's better to get the parrots sex confirmed just top be sure.
It's best to only put one male and one female together so they can get to know each other and become companions. It's also a good idea to buy a nest box that is about 24 inches in height and width. An L shaped nesting box is popular with a hole in the top. It's a good idea to also add some wood chippings to the box for the eggs.
African Grey Parrot eggs hatch usually within 1 month and there are normally between two to five eggs. Make sure once the baby parrots hatch that you are careful, as the mother can be very protective and aggressive. It's important not to wear gloves though because they are not sensitive enough to handle the new baby parrots.
