Wow! This is a very serious subject. I'm so glad you wrote about it. I feel much more educated now. Its too late for most of us, but it needs to be stopped.

I wish I had not circumcised my boys and I cried when they did it. But it was extremely strong lobbying by male doctors that convinced me to. Now I would not.

I have three daughters so I've never had to deal with this issue. I like this lens because of the debate you have going on...I wish it had been a Monkeybrain lens. I would like to see a blog section that gives the opinions of pro-circumcision people. It's always good to offer both sides of an argument. Remember that for your next debate lens. You did a good job and argued your point well. For that I am giving you a blessing.

Very interesting lens, very well presented!

This tradition is not present in my country. And, in a way, I'm happy not to be asked to choose. I even decided not to pierce my daughter's ears. She'll make this decision by herself when she grows up. :)

You managed to present this in really provoking way and to engage people to share their opinions! Well done! Blessed by an Angel!

I like your lens because it is complete, informative and well-done; most of all because it deals with an important personal and social issue we all should be aware of and express our opinion. Excellent job.

At last! Circumcision is a barbaric practice. And yes, ladies....physical relations with an uncircumsized man is much better!

I really liked this lens and now that i'm an angel I can give my blessing too :)

Socially import lens. Well done. Absolutely has my support and has given me the idea for a new lens. I don't link the fact though that cirumcision in the Intro has an InfoLink and that nearly stopped me blessing it. I think for a lens like this I'd consider turning InfoLinks off.
    Blessed.

You've missed out that if the "boy" turns out to be gender dysphoric that valuable tissue for vaginoplasty/labiaplasty has been removed. Circumcision won't prevent gender confirmation surgery but if the available penile and scrotal tissue supply is short it can make it more complex.

Nicely done & blessed by a SquidAngel.

Although I don't agree with you, I think you did a good job presenting your side of the issue. It gives prospective parents a lot to think about and that's always a good thing. Great job 5*
I think this would have made an amazing hey monkeybrain lens. :)

Youngsmeagol, your comment contained some errors that should be addressed. First of all, circumcision was added to the Covenant around 550BCE by priests. It does not appear in the original accounts of Abraham, and there is a growing movement among Jews to end the practice. www.jewsagainstcircumcision.org

Likewise, circumcision does not appear anywhere in the Quran, and Christians are actually warned against the practice as Christ's sacrifice abolishes and replaces the Old Covenant. Circumcision may be a cultural tradition, but it is most certainly NOT mandated by the big three.

Lastly, you are misinformed if you think "most people in the world" are circumcised. 80% of the world's male population are actually intact. The US is the only industrial nation to routinely cut most of its boys (but the numbers are falling - down to about 50% now).

It's a breach of medical ethics and human rights.

Actually most of the men in the world are left intact and are saved from the trauma and horror of mutilation of their genitals!!!! Only in the United States is it routinely done for NON-MEDICAL, NON-RELIGIOUS reasons. Yes, Jews and Muslims do it, but in the rest of the world, they are the ONLY ones that routinely mutilate their infant boys.

It's rare that you'll find anyone bad mouthing circumcision because it's recommended in most of the major religions (Christianity, Judaism and Islam).

That pretty much guarantees that most people in the world will continue to be circumcised.

I've never heard anything like this in my life.

Very informative lens! I tried to answer in your duel but had some problems with the pop up when submitting it. If the blurb shows up twice feel free to delete one.

This is a nice, informative lens. We had our son circumcised, but I wish I had seen this information before we made that decision.

Infant circumcision is a very sensitive issue. Before you decide to circumcise your son, do as much research as possible! more »
