Agatha Christie's The Pale Horse Audio Book
Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa, Lady Mallowan, best known to the world as crime writer Agatha Christie, the creator of beloved classic characters Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot, Hastings, Anne Beddingfeld, Superintendant Battle, Inspector James Leach, Ariadne Oliver and Inspector Lejeune is amongst the best selling writers in history, sales of her works are ranked next to William Shakespeare, J R R Tolkien and The Bible. Amongst her 80 odd pieces of literature firm favourites have remained Death on the Nile, A Caribbean Mystery (both made into several BBC and Hollywood movies)and Murder on the Orient Express. Agatha Christie is also author of the world's longest running theatre show The Mouse Trap (it's still asked of theatre goers not to reveal who did it after all these years!).
Despite the popularity of her classic creations, Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot, fans are still smitten with lesser known creations Ariadne Oliver and Inspector Lejeune, the sleths tasked with solving the mystery of The Pale Horse, one of Christie's lesser known stories.
The basic premise has Priest Father Gorman asked to call in on a woman who confesses a strange secret to him shortly before she dies. Gorman is himself mudered on his way home, a note with 9 names found inside his shoe.
The clues point to the Pale Horse, an Inn and home to three strange women; a Psychic, a Medium and a witch.
Adriadne Oliver and her friend Mark Esterbrook are charged with solving the murders.
The audio book breathes life into this chilling tale of the occult, once reminding me of author H P Lovecraft's tales of terror. The setting is suitably eerie and tense. You can practically feel the fog!
Like all of Agatha Christie's stories this is a delight and will not fail to have you sitting on the edge of your seat until the very end!
