Eating Healthy Can Now Be Considered An Anti-Aging Treatment

I guess the old saying, "you are what you eat" is more true than we perhaps want to admit. It now seems that eating healthy not only will keep you fit, but it can help in the aging process too. As science continues it's research on how the body works and what makes it tick, some "neat" discoveries have been made. Foods do promote a healthy body or it can cause physical stress. Aging people who experience life threatening diseases also have an inadequate health lifestyle followed by a poor diet. So could healthy foods be looked upon as anti-aging foods?

Just Because You Are Getting Older Doesn't Mean You Have To Have Wrinkles!

Lets talk about wrinkles. Everyone has them and those who don't will as the aging process kicks in. Some people have more than others and can be found anywhere on their bodies from their head to their feet. Wrinkles can be caused by poor eating habits and the inability of the body to produce collagen. Collagen is the substance that allows our skin to maintain it's elasticity. How do you know if you are losing this substance? When you look in the mirror and you don't recognize the person staring back at you, you know you have lost collagen.. Men and women both are victims of the skin elasticity being decreased due to the natural aging process.

Still gotta eat those veggies

Eating fresh veggies and lean meats gives the body the antioxidants that will clean out your body cells. Antioxidants remove the free radicals from the body that causes the aging process and loss of elasticity to the skin. When elasticity remains then wrinkles are decreased. The best food to eat is either organic food or even kosher foods. When buying food be sure that it has the organic seal on the label or it may not really be a true organic food product. Organic foods are mostly non-processed or very little processed and has no harsh chemicals like pesticides or hormones found in the food product. The fertilizing method of choice is usually compost made from decomposing substances like leaves, wood, potato skins or citrus peels, or like items.

If you can't find any organic foods, in your market the next best thing to look for is "natural" foods. Beware, you must read the labels especially when it comes to meat products. Not all natural foods are created equal. Let me test your high school biology knowledge. What is the largest organ in your body? If you answered the skin you would be right. Most people don't think of the skin on our bodies as an organ but it really is. This organ is exposed to the elements that can damage it on a daily basis. Skin can be damaged by both external and internal means. We know that internal means eating the wrong types of food. External means our environment including the very homes we live in. That is why it's very important to know the ingredients that are in our food but also in products that we put on our skin.

Antioxidants the good stuff

The foods that aid in the anti-aging process are also known as antioxidants. Antioxidants attack free radicals that can be found throughout the body at any time and any where. Free radicals are damaging particles that injure a body cell and causes an increase in the aging process. The hard thing to grasp is that our bodies also create these free radicals during the process of just being alive. Free radicals can be made by the body and can enter the body from any outside source. Antioxidants removes the free radicals before our bodies can be damaged. So yippee for the antioxidants; but if we can't get them in our bodies it does us no good. Eating fruits and vegetables along with whole grains will put antioxidants into our bodies. It sure makes me want to go back and finish those veggies that I left on my plate as a kid growing up. Does it make you wish you had too?

There are some foods that are really high in these wonderful antioxidants. Cranberries, red beans and blueberries.are excellent sources

Exercise Is Good For You Regardless Of Your Age

Is it ever too late to exercise to prevent or slow down the aging process? As far as I am concerned if you are still breathing it's never too late. Anti-aging exercise along with proper diet can make you look and feel younger. A simple workout plan can produce this, but if the commitment isn't there then no exercise routine will work. As with any exercise program be sure to consult with your doctor first. Remember to take it slowly and use wisdom. You have a lifetime to get your body healthy.

A good anti-aging exercise program should consist of a "safe" cardio routine. Unless you are running now, then running more than likely will not be the type of cardio routine you want. Running can lead to damage to the knees due to the impact of the exercise itself. So low impact exercise are the ones that you want to focus on. Walking would be your first pick. Even exercise machines like treadmills where you are walking not running would fit the bill. The average guideline of 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise 3 times a week will not only burn fat but can transform your body.

Another good anti-aging exercise would be weights. Weights will make you stronger while causing you to look stronger and healthier. Middle age people who have added a weight routine to their regular exercise of walking noted feeling stronger and leaner. They also report that they feel so much better now in their 50's than they did in their 20's or 30's. Most of them will report being more energized and alive than ever before. Again use wisdom and have someone who is knowledgeable to help you set up your weight routine.

    There is more to anti-aging than exercise however exercise is so very important. Even when we are stuck sitting in a chair behind the compouter, we need to take a break every 60 minutes to stretch and move. The other factors related to anti-aging is de-stressing, breathing, eating helathy un-processed foods, cutting out sugar, excess alcohol and toxins from our diet and perhaps adding in advanced quality supplements.
