Well ... almost anything!
It is something my mother has always said.
"A bath will fix anything."
In the interests of staying a step ahead of any "false advertising claims" - I do realise that a bath will not fix everything. My tongue is firmly planted in my cheek.
Nonetheless, Mum was adamant.
Had a bad day ... have a bath. Too wired to sleep ... have a bath. Feeling unwell ... have a bath. Third-world debt ... have a bath.
Well, maybe not that last one. But all the others, definately.

Bath Philosophy
So, why can a bath fix anything?
The more I think about it now, the more I realised that when my mum passed on to me her love of baths ... she was teaching me a very important lesson.
Whether or not Mum knew it at the time, her advice was telling me that if I take a step back from my troubles I can quite often find a solution.
Now, in my life, that is the underlying role of baths. They allow me to take myself away from my issues, from stress, and just relax and feel good.
Quite often, I have gone into the bathroom with a problem - had a good soak in the tub for a couple of hours - and come out with a solution. Or at the very least, I come out feeling better about my problem.
Even if your life is free of stress and worries, taking the time to pamper yourself and feel good is a very wise investment.

Say what?
That all sounds a bit deep ...
I know! Not a bad effort for a lens that most people would consider light-hearted and a tad flippant.
But I'm going to dig even deeper.
I would go so far as to make a connection between baths and The Law of Attraction.
"You what?" I hear you say!
Stay with me.
As a fan of "The Secret" DVD, I understand that the main message of the film is that in order to create great things in your life, you must feel good.
A bath makes me feel good.
So, as I was saying in my Bath Philosophy - you have a problem, you have a bath, you find a solution. Why?
Because you have changed your emotion, your outlook, your attitude. You have taken a step back from the issues in your life, put them out of your mind, relaxed, breathed in the sweet-smelling steam from a long hot soak in the tub and, suddenly, you have found a solution, or a way to deal.
Fabulous.
As The Secret says: anything that makes you feel good is going to attract more good things into you life.
That's why a bath is such a good investment.
Have a bath. Feel good. Enjoy the good things in your life.

A Super Soak
Em's recipe for a really good bath!
I love a good bath. It's my way of taking a bit of time out for myself - to give myself a bit of pampering. A good bath lasts for at least an hour ... two if you can string it out that long!INGREDIENTS
1 bath
1 portion of tap water (a portion size is enough water in the bath to cover the bathee's chest)
Bubbles, oils, fizzy bombs or salts
1 loofah (or similar)
1 face mask (I find clay or mud masks are great for the pores)
1 good magazine
1 towel
1 stressed out person
METHOD
Fill the bath with a portion of tap water - as hot as you like. Add bubbles, oils, fizzy bombs or salts as water is running. Meanwhile, apply face mask to stressed out face (be sure to remove clothing first) and make sure towel is within reach of the bath.
When the bath is filled, lower your stressed-out self into it, until you are lying down. Wipe your hands on the towel and pick up the magazine.
Read until the mask dries.
When the mask has dried, wash you face clean - be sure to enjoy the feeling of you super-soft skin. At this time, pick up the loofah and give the rest of your body a good scrub. This will make you feel invigorated.
Lie back for a few minutes and enjoy the relaxation.
Feel free to pick up the magazine again.
Stay in the bath for as long as you want, but do not let the water get too cold!
Enjoy the fact that all your troubles run away down the plughole with the bath water.
See, it really does fix anything!
